American Trophy Hunter On Safari Killed by Cape Buffalo

Sometimes the animal wins, as Asher Watkins discovered. Watkins was an American trophy hunter. He traveled the world to find a variety of animals in the wild. And kill them. He was in South Africa on safari last Sunday, pursuing a 3,000lb Cape Buffalo bull in thick bush. Without warning, the buffalo burst from cover at 35mph and fatally struck Watkins, killing him almost instantly.

Sometimes you get the trophy.
And, sometimes, the trophy gets you.

I understand that the danger of big game hunting is part of the thrill.

So the deceased died happy.

One of our local bigshot guide/outfitters went on safari several years ago and was killed by a Cape Buffalo. It charged him, and the .243 he was carrying was nowhere near enough gun to stop it.

Cape Buffalo are more dangerous than Lions,Rhinos or just about any game animal.

They plan ambushes.

They hold long term grudges.

This one Got Him a Millionaire.
