It was long believed that Pauline Mullins Pusser, the wife of the legendary Tennessee sheriff Buford Pusser, was shot and killed in an ambush meant for her husband, but new evidence suggests that it was the late sheriff who killed his wife.

Another American myth shattered.

Note that in many rural counties, coroner's are parttime employees who sign off on death certificates. A funeral director in Bumfuq County, Louisiana or Claptrap County, Alabama can also be the almighty coroner. So, for decades murders in these rural or southern counties have been swept under the carpet by the "good ole boy network," like in this case.
