According to new polling data, nearly 80 percent of Americans support extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, which are set to expire at the end of this year -- and are at the center of a funding dispute that led to a shutdown of the federal government this week.
Democrats' funding proposal would restore access to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act marketplace for legal immigrants who will lose access once certain provisions of the Republicans' tax and spending law take effect. kffhealthnews.org/news/article ...

Trump's Backing a Healthcare Plan That Breaks His Promises (2017)
www.nbcnews.com
... President Donald Trump rode to the White House making big promises on health care -- pledges that he is now in serious danger of breaking. Let's look at how the president's words on the campaign trail stack up against what we know today.
In addition to Trump's comments on the stump, his administration has spent weeks raising expectations on its Obamacare replacement. Among the claims: The Republican plan would cover more people, reduce their premiums and costs, avoid cutting Medicaid, and leave no one worse off than under the former president's signature achievement.

Recent polling shows that about 78% of the American public supports extending ACA subsidies, with high support across party lines"even 59% of Republicans and 82% of independents agree with this position. Very few issues see similarly broad support in U.S. public opinion surveys. Other policies that sometimes approach this level include protections for people with pre-existing health conditions (which consistently poll above 80%) and maintaining Social Security and Medicare funding, both of which routinely receive 80%+ support in national surveys. Very few new policy initiatives, particularly those that involve significant government spending, reach such consensus across political affiliations.[1][5][6]
The ACA subsidy extension stands out as nearly unique in garnering such strong, bipartisan backing among American voters.[5][6][1]
