Farmers' Almanac to End Publication after 208 Years

"It is with a great appreciation and heartfelt emotions that we write to share some sad news. After more than 200 years of sharing a unique blend of weather, wit and wisdom, we've made the very difficult decision to write the final chapter of this historical publication."

The beginning of the end is nigh. I abhor this feeling.

Can't they just reprint old ones and change the cover?

#2,

Isn't that what they did every year anyway?

Oh this isn't even about "The Old Farmer's Almanac" that most are familiar with it's about some other "Farmer's Almanac" from Maine.

I used to read it when I lived in New Hampshire at Lake Winnepasaki.

Pretty interesting really.

6. I been there. After decades of TVA lakes/reservoirs, it was nice to see something naturally filled to the brim with water. Beautiful.

DBT2

First time I saw it was after a major snowstorm that has us and 100's of other cars stranded on the highway north from Boston where we had come in at Logan Airport from Dallas.

We got to my wife's parent's place after dark; a lake cabin on Black Cat Island where we lived for a while. The next morning though, I woke up to a winter wonderland; banks of snow and a huge icy lake.

Walked down to the edge of the water and was testing the ice with my foot.... when a pickup truck pulling a fishing hut came around the shore ON the ice.

The guy in the truck saw what I was doing and looked at me like I must be some idiot from Texas. Ok, fine.

Spent a year or so there; sled dog races and wind surfing ice skiffs in winter and all sorts of boating and swimming in summer. Lake Winnipesaukee is also home of the 230' cruise ship the Mount Washington.

Thanks for that.

From that link in #4...

... ... The Maine-based publication, not to be confused with the even older Old Farmer's Almanac in neighboring New Hampshire, was first printed in 1818. For centuries, it's used a secret formula based on sunspots, planetary positions and lunar cycles to generate long-range weather forecasts. ...

"I used to read it when I lived in New Hampshire at Lake Winnepasaki."

I heard that it was very popular in Lake Wobegone, Minnesota, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.
