Ukraine Conducts First Ever Drone Strike on Submarine

For the first time in history, maritime drones disabled a submarine. The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) deployed underwater drones to attack a Kilo-class Russian submarine in the port of Novorossiysk, causing it critical damage and rendering it ineffective.

The Ukraine SSU and the Ukrainian navy conducted the unique special operation using Sub Sea Baby naval drones against the Russian submarine that was launching Kalibr cruise missiles against Ukrainian targets. Map: Novorossiysk

On Day 1,392 of the Kremlin's brutal invasion of Ukraine, the Russian military has lost ~1,190,620 personnel, 1,150 in the past 24 hours alone. In addition to the ruined submarine, Russia has lost 432 aircraft and 347 helicopters.

An international arrest warrant for war crimes issued by the ICC remains active for Vladimir Putin. An indictment is merely an allegation. Mr. Putin is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt at an international tribunal to be held for him at the Hague at a future date.

fwiw, Russia has denied that it had occurred.

That could be the result of one or two (or maybe more) things ...

1) it did occur and Russia is embarrassed to admit.

2) it actually did not occur, and Ukraine is lying.

For me, I'm leaning towards #1.

Ukraine strikes Russian submarine with Sub Sea Baby' drone

... On December 15th, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that it had struck an Improved Kilo-class submarine at the Russian naval base at Novorossiysk. The attack was reportedly a joint operation between the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU and the Ukrainian Naval Forces and made use of a "Sub Sea Baby" drone.

The SBU also released a video of the attack (see below[1]) showing how the drone struck the stern of an Improved Kilo-class submarine moored at the far end of the submarine pen inside the naval base.

So far there is no independent verification if the submarine was sunk in port.

Available images of the attack shows a massive explosion at the stern of the submarine, likely resulting in significant damage to the hull, propulsion as well as the aft vertical and horizontal dive planes.

Even if the submarine doesn't sink, the possible damage suffered will be extensive enough to render the submarine inoperable for a serious period of time.

The Russian Ministry of Defense however claimed that the attack failed and that no vessel inside the naval base was damaged. ...

It happened, but it was docked. They've hit numerous docked ships already. They didn't hit a submarine on patrol, that's something far more challenging.

Need to go back to submarine nets that block drones in harbors. We need to look at our harbors like San Diego.

"We need to look at our harbors like San Diego."

Admirals, you heard the man:
Rake The Harbor, so it doesn't catch on fire like the rest of California!

Those still exist. The Russians have them in the harbor this submarine was destroyed at.

If you're on the surface with a jet drive, you'll glide right over it.
