Former Starbucks chief executive Howard Schultz said in a LinkedIn post that he and his wife are moving from Seattle to Florida after more than four decades in the city, where he helped build the coffee chain into a global brand.

I'd rather see wages increase than taxes.

But millionaires and billionaires don't get rich on their own.

They needs roads so their employees can get to work. They need gov't subsidies to make up for their ---- wages. They need schools so their employees' kids can get an education and take care of the kids while the parents work. They need water and energy infrastructure. They need cops and a justice system to prevent or rectify crimes against their business. The list goes on.

Millionaires and billionaires wouldn't be rich without any one of these things, and none of it is free.

I get the complaint about Wash not having income tax now, but if thats your hot take/ gotcha critique, its pretty weak. Why raise the tax, is it needed? Why? Thats the real question, if NO income tax is such a "winning" take, why is it failing?

Back on topic, he earned $95.M in 2025, so might have been ~$8.5M or so a year going forward.

Does it really need to be 9%? Thats really the issue, they could have gone with 2%, 3% and jacked it up every year there after... boil the frog kinda thing.

But going 9% first confiscation is too much for many people. I expect the middle class/tech workers to eventually get taxed in Washington shortly.

Imagine there's a Federal Government estate tax of 40% if over $27M, and a NYC one at $7M.

So if this tax proposal goes through, a middle class persons home would be taxed 90%?? Is that sane?

Seems like Elite Democrats are over reaching, I have seen some speculation all these Tax increases are because the NGO money collapsed because of DOGE.
This could be true, but taxing average people like this, and also loss because of fraud will lose elections or people will move to saner locations.

One ramification of this is people will sell their homes, and put that income into property outside the state/city. Perhaps that is the goal, to drive out the middle class from NY, while lowering the price of housing given the increase in supply due to this tax.
