Superhero window washers work at Children's Hospital

Ethan Nielson and his sister, Ryley, had smiles on their faces as they looked up to the top of the Alberta Children's Hospital on Wednesday, watching superheroes rappelling down the brightly coloured building. Five months ago, Ethan was hit by a truck in his community of Cranston and suffered severe injuries.

Since then, the nine-year-old has defied every odd that's been thrown at him, his mother Melanie Nielson says, earning him his own superhero name: Awesome Ethan.

... As she stood with the children watching window washers dressed as Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk and Thor swing back and forth across the side of the building, Nielson said sights like this make a big difference for the kids being treated at the hospital.

"We're fortunate enough that we just come back for regular appointments," she said, noting Ethan initially spent three months in the facility.

"But there's kids who spend years of their lives here, and so things like this just make the mundane and the everyday enjoyable." ...
