I do want oil prices to be higher, for it to be taxed more over time to encourage people to use safer and more socially responsible alternatives.

But I also realize that people currently rely on oil for heating and getting to work. And that it is not reasonable for people to switch to alternatives (electric cars, heat pumps) in a short period of time.

I advocate for increasing the price of oil over the course of years and decades. While you are talking about increasing its price by almost 50% over the course of three weeks.

I want consistent, deliberate, and gradual policy change so that people can make informed decisions about the future and adjust gradually. Not conservative chaos that results in 50% oil spikes and American citizens getting caught in a war zone without any warning.

So yes, your strawman is pretty idiotic.

My point is that if we are going to truly go carbon free EV's can't be built. Various studies exist but the last one I saw showed that next to a comparable ICE vehicle both need to be driven about 60K miles for the carbon output of the ICE vehicle to catch up to the carbon inputs needed to build the EV. That doesn't even get into other environmental problems EV's have in terms of mining precious metals, battery disposal, etc.

President Trump sent conflicting signals on Monday about the duration of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, suggesting that the war could be near an end, and a few hours later leaving the timing open-ended.

The war "is very complete, pretty much," Mr. Trump, who had predicted a duration of four or five weeks, said in a phone interview with the CBS reporter Weijia Jiang. He added, "We're very far ahead of schedule."
