Something is Rotten in the State of America

David French, New York Times:
Something Is Rotten in the State of America -- I want you to remember the name Mark Peters. -- In 2009 he was on patrol in Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device. The incident was captured on video and can be seen in a 2014 documentary series called “My War.”

On Tuesday, the prime minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, issued a clear and unequivocal statement rejecting the American bid to own his island. "We are now facing a geopolitical crisis," Nielsen said. "And if we have to choose between the United States and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark. We choose NATO. We choose the Kingdom of Denmark. We choose the E.U."

And what was Trump's response? "I disagree with him," he said, "I don't know who he is."

It's a problem when you give a Crazy Man, Donald Trump, unlimited power.

It's especially a problem when that Crazy Man has no standards of morality.

The Danes celebrate 07/04 with us because of what we did for them in World War II.

I don't think that tradition has any future now.

Only if we shoot ourselves in the foot and not crush the mid terms and then don't win back the White House in two years.

Two years might seem like a long time right now. It's really not.

The hidden meaning of Shakespeare's line "there is something rotten in the state of Denmark" refers to the "throne" being "venereally infected" by syphilis after Claudius married Hamlet's mother.

Syphilis was rampant in London and in Hamlet the Bard of Avon cleverly refers to this pestilence in slang throughout the play, Denmark mirroring London and vice versa. Mercury was a favored treatment by the shamans, quacks, and physicians of London in the Elizabethan Age and beyond. You see this briefly in the new Frankenstein film.

Sidenote: Ireland and the Philippines also celebrated Fourth of July with us.
