Cover version of Eric Bogle's song
The song describes war as futile and gruesome, while criticising those who seek to glorify it ...
Waltzing Matilda is the unofficial anthem of Australia by Australian poet Banjo Paterson (1895). A very popular bush ballad about waltzing (walking around) with a pack (a matilda) on your back.
As this song is dear to the hearts of many Australians, it would be played at important occasions such as a ship leaving the docks for war, or the return of the soldiers, or other events.
(OK, lyrics are too long for one comment, so continued in next comment ...)
OK, how 'bout songs with violins?

Puscifer - Bad Wolf 2026
Views from the Spectrum are grim and beyond askew
Our good wolves are dead and the keepers have fled the zoo
Cracks in the prism, our mission, now touch and go
Glutinous and deviant, the pigs have obscured the view
Our bad wolves thrive
Our bad wolves thrive
Bad actors all that remain on the stage and station
Boisterous conductors, they echo without within
Plea to the void, to the gods that I don't believe in
I now believe that we live in a simulation
Our bad wolves thrive
Our bad wolves thrive
Salacious and Insatiable
Salacious and Insatiable
Salacious and Insatiable
Salacious and
Our bad wolves thrive
Our bad wolves thrive
Views from the Spectrum are grim and beyond askew
Our good wolves are dead, and the keepers have fled the zoo
Our bad wolves thrive
Our bad wolves thrive
Our simulation bad wolves echoes
Thrive to the void
Our bad wolves thrive
Our simulation wolves echoes
Thrive to the void, bad wolves thrive
Sparks.
My Jr year in High School('73-ish), a DJ from the local hip radio station did a presentation on the Future Of Rock and Roll, or some such pretentious crap.
What I came away from it with was his declaration that Sparks was going to become the biggest thing since the Beatles. He was serious as a heart attack. How, in his bent brain, he thought Ron Mael was ever going to become popular, is way beyond me.
They, Ron and brother Russell(vocals) have, however, created a unique body of work over the last 50+ years.

On Sunday, April 30, 1972, my HS girlfriend, oldest brother and I were seated on the 50-yard line of Tampa Stadium, about halfway up, for a concert by Rod Stewart and the Faces!

It's not often that you see the drummer of a rock band put down the drumsticks and pick up a violin.
This video was made before imagine dragons became the arena band IMAGINE DRAGONS. :)
#32 Coriolanus hits the nail on the head with his excellent observation: One of the luckiest Hollywood girls of the 1960s was Ann-Margret.

Ann-Margret:There are men with childhood behind them
Handsome men
From Yale or Purdue
Older men and I'm gonna find them
I got a lot of living to do
I'm a'gonna have fun
Gonna be wild
Have my own way
I may break a heart today
Drink champagne
As if it were water
Pink champagne
And after a few
Daddy dear, you won't know your daughter
She's got a lot of living to do !
