What Thomas Matthew Crooks did in hours leading up to attack on former President Trump
abcnews.go.com

... On the day of the assassination attempt, he asked if he could borrow his father's AR-15-style rifle, saying he planned to go to a shooting range, sources said. Because Crooks' father had previously let him use the gun for target shooting, he was not suspicious that his son was planning anything of concern.

Crooks went to a local gun shop that day, where he bought 50 rounds of 5.56 mm ammo. He also stopped at a Home Depot to buy a 5-foot ladder, though it was not found at the scene and is not believed to have been used to access the roof. ...

Then he did just that. ...

Disrespectful, imo.

Mask Bans Grow, Threatening Public Health And Immunocompromised People
www.forbes.com

... The CDC has just changed its assessment of Covid-19 risks from saying it is primarily a seasonal, winter respiratory infection to noting that there are also summer peaks. It is, therefore, even more disturbing that a number of cities and states are choosing to promote mask bans. Here's where those policies have taken hold.

North Carolina

In North Carolina, the General Assembly passed bill HB 237, previously called Unmasking Mobs and Criminals. It said it is illegal to mask in public unless you have a contagious disease. (Note: There is no exemption for preventing disease, asthma, or other medical problems). Republicans said the law was passed as a response to masking at college campuses by protestors against the war in Gaza. The law also increases the penalties if a person commits a crime while wearing a mask. Yet if they obtained a permit, the KKK could hold masked rallies.

Democratic State Rep. Maria Cervania is an epidemiologist as well as a legislator. In an interview, she said that the worst part is that "any property owner or occupant of that property can tell you you need to take off your mask." Further, "law enforcement can ask you to take off your mask for any reason." The Democratic Governor, Roy Cooper, vetoed this bill, and the GOP legislature overrode his veto.

The GOP knows "that this is not based in medical facts," Cervania added. "It's not based on individual rights and freedoms. It's not based on people being able to make their own decisions about their health, the health of their loved ones." "This is all politics," Cervania concluded, and "passing this doesn't protect our people." ...

Bob Newhart, Comedy Icon, Dies at 94
variety.com

... Bob Newhart, the genteel but sharply satirical comic whose TV series "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart" were huge hits throughout the 1970s and '80s, died Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 94.

Newhart's publicist Jerry Digney said he died after a series of short illnesses.

Newhart was also known to younger audiences as Papa Elf in the 2003 Christmas classic "Elf," his guest spots on "The Big Bang Theory" (for which he won his only Emmy, as a guest star in 2013) and most recently appeared in three episodes of "Young Sheldon."

"The Big Bang Theory" creator Chuck Lorre remembered Newhart, saying in a statement, "For years I begged Bob to appear on one of my shows. He always said no.

But then he fell in love with 'The Big Bang Theory' and said yes -- with two provisions. One: his character had to have an arc that spanned several episodes. And two: he wanted to win an Emmy. We delivered on both. I got to work with a comedy legend. A master of the craft, and a kind and gentle man.

I even got to call him a friend. How lucky am I?" ...
