The US State Department has issued a halt to nearly all existing foreign assistance and paused new aid, according to an internal memo sent to officials and US embassies abroad. The leaked notice follows President Trump's executive order issued on Monday for a 90-day pause in foreign development assistance pending a review of efficiencies and consistency with his foreign policy.

Brown University School of Public Health and Brookings Institution researchers have conducted a longitudinal and cross-sectional study investigating trends in hospital and private equity affiliation among primary care physicians and the associated impact on negotiated service prices. I ain't here to hold you when you cry
I ain't here to hold your shaky hand
I ain't here to look you in the eye
Or beg for you to understand
I ain't gonna walk you thru your dreams
Walk you thru this life that we all know
I ain't here to listen while you speak
I ain't here to heal your broken soul
Am I here at all?
I ain't here to tell you what you need
I ain't gonna take a noble stand
I ain't here to look you in the eye
Or beg for you to understand
I can only tell you what I've seen
I can only tell you how it felt
When my heart was crushed so bad inside
Till I felt the hatred slowly melt
I don't wanna
I ain't gonna watch your every move
I ain't gonna dog your every step
I ain't here to shape your every mood
I ain't here to keep your secrets kept
Oh, but if I held you in my arms
If I could squeeze you till we cry
I don't wanna lose this love I feel
I don't wanna lose this fight tonight
I ain't gonna

Back in the 90's I used to frequent an area Thai restaurant. I asked for the meals to be "Thai hot." And I got that.
In that restaurant, "Thai hot" was a delicate balance between flavor and heat.
The owners, a man who met his wife while in the Peace Corps, were great folk, and wow, they could cook Thai food.

State Department issues immediate, widespread pause on foreign aid
www.politico.com
... Secretary of State Marco Rubio halted spending Friday on most existing foreign aid grants for 90 days. The order, which shocked State Department officials, appears to apply to funding for military assistance to Ukraine.
Rubio's guidance, issued to all diplomatic and consular posts, requires department staffers to issue "stop-work orders" on nearly all "existing foreign assistance awards," according to the document, which was obtained by POLITICO. It is effective immediately.
It appears to go further than President Donald Trump's recent executive order, which instructed the department to pause foreign aid grants for 90 days pending review by the secretary. It had not been clear from the president's order if it would affect already appropriated funds or Ukraine aid.
The new guidance means no further actions will be taken to disperse aid funding to programs already approved by the U.S. government, according to three current and two former officials familiar with the new guidance. ...

When I need something to help me unwind
I find a six-foot baby with a one-track mind
Smart guys are nowhere, they make demands
Give me a moron with talented hands
I go bar-hopping and they say "Last call"
I start shopping for a Neanderthal
[Pre-Chorus]
The bigger they come, the harder I fall
In love 'till we're done, then they're out in the hall
[Chorus]
I like 'em big and stupid
I like 'em big and real dumb
I like 'em big and stupid
[Verse 2]
What kind of guy does a lot for me?
Superman with a lobotomy
My father's outta Harvard, my brother's outta Yale
Well, the guy I took home last night just got outta jail
The way he grabbed and threw me
Ooh, it really got me hot
But the way he growled and bit me
I hope he'd had his shots

Biden Bars Trump From Receiving Intelligence Briefings, Citing Erratic Behavior' (2021)
www.nytimes.com
... President Biden said on Friday that he would bar his predecessor, Donald J. Trump, from receiving intelligence briefings traditionally given to former presidents, saying that Mr. Trump could not be trusted because of his "erratic behavior" even before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
The move was the first time that a former president had been cut out of the briefings, which are provided partly as a courtesy and partly for the moments when a sitting president reaches out for advice. Currently, the briefings are offered on a regular basis to Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Mr. Biden, speaking to Norah O'Donnell of CBS News, said Mr. Trump's behavior worried him "unrelated to the insurrection" that gave rise to the second impeachment of Mr. Trump. ...
And that looks to be quite justified to me.

How Russia's Press Freedom has Deteriorated Over the Decades Since Putin Came to Power (2023)
www.pbs.org
... Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, independent journalists and media have faced an intensifying crackdown, with many declared "foreign agents." FRONTLINE's documentary Putin vs. the Press explores how Novaya Gazeta, the independent newspaper founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Dmitry Muratov, was censored and eventually forced to shut down by the Russian government.
Although Russia's war on Ukraine has led to an "unprecedented clampdown on the media," Amnesty International's Russia researcher Natalia Prilutskaya told FRONTLINE that press freedom was already in a dire position in Russia. Press freedom has seen a steady decline in the country ever since Vladimir Putin, who was first elected to the presidency in 2000, came into power. According to the Reporters Without Borders' World Press Freedom Index " which is updated annually " Russia ranked 148th among 180 countries in 2014. By 2023, the country's rank dropped to 164th.
"It's never been easy to be a journalist in Russia," Gulnoza Said, the Committee to Protect Journalists' Europe and Central Asia program coordinator, told FRONTLINE. "Since 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it's always been quite a difficult job to do." ...
