I have never bought anything from Temu, nor have I ever clicked on a Temu ad, or any other ads that pops up on this site. I most certainly have never bought Trump merch, and find the man so revolting that I avoid any content about him.

Quite obviously, the ads are watching this site, and considering more than half the content is about Trump, the bots probably believe the Drudge Retort is a MAGA den. Ad Bots follow keywords, they don't analyze.

I'm always puzzled about the ads that seem to land on. This most August site, Lampy. Lately I've been getting mostly Temu ads, but I got lots of Trump type merch offered to me here also. I suppose it is because the algorithms see his name over and over in the content.

Even back in the 80's and 90's, we rarely made arrests for personal use quantities of cannabis. It pretty much had to rise to the level of felony trafficking or invollve children before we bothered with enforcement action.

More commonly, an arrested drug dealer would be distributing weed along with meth, cocaine and or heroin (street dealers diversify). That would get our attention, but even then we'd see the same guys back on the same corner a week later, because they would plea out to the lesser offense of simple possession In exchange for dropping the felony charges.

When you see a story about people doing time for minor offenses, realize that minor offense is likely not representative of the crime they were originally accused of. Nearly all convictions are the result of plea bargains.. trafficking become possession with intent to distribute, Distribution becomes possession, Robbery becomes petit theft, Burglary becomes Trespass, Aggravated Battery becomes simple assault, etc. Actual trials are rare.

The nerds I knew went on to make way more money than the Jocks I knew.

Y2K ... ..we were told to expect to have our days off cancelled and have to work 16 hour days because the apocalypse was likely. I flew in a relative to be here for two weeks to care for my children. Ultimately, I didn't even make a dollar in overtime. It was business as usual before New Years Day was over.

There is no "end all solution". It is the human factors we need to fix. There is (and always will be) a small percentage of people that either actively want to kill other people, or lack the inhibition, compassion or respect for human life that prevents the rest of us from crossing that line.

The murder rate in the US waxes and wanes with various societal factors. It is actually lower now than it was 100 years ago, so maybe we are actually becoming more civilized.

#17 I know of no states that prohibit guns from being stored in unattended vehicles. In my experience, that is where a HUGE number of guns used in crimes come from. Auto burglaries. Any kid with a rock can get his hands on a gun in minutes. A group of kids with rocks can get enough guns to arm the whole gang in one apartment complex parking lot inside of an hour.. some of them won't even have to bust a window, because idiots leave cars unlocked with guns in the glove box all the time.

Crime rates peaked in the late 80's, early 90's, a direct result of the Crack Cocaine epidemic, and they fall as that epidemic waned. Every politician, federal, state and local, since then has tried to take credit for falling crime rates.

I'm a bit tired so unable to engage too much but I will throw out a few half baked ideas.

1) Pass (and enforce) laws that require legal gun owners to keep their guns from falling into the wrong hands. This means no leaving guns in vehicles, unlocked cars or other places where they can be easily stolen, and locked up in a manner that savvy teens can't get to them either.. Biometric safes and locking devices are well within the realm of current technology. If my truck can open its door when a touch it, we can certainly find ways to use that to keep guns out of unauthorized hands.

Sure, that means there are still many, many guns out there in the hands of legal gun owners, but that would knock out SO many of the guns used in crimes. I am fully aware that mass shootings often involve legally purchased guns, however, mass shootings are a very small percentage of homicides overall, so that is not my focus here.

2) Decriminalize cannabis nationwide, and contemplate other changes in the way we fight the "war on drugs". The majority of homicides are tied to the illegal drug trade, and/or the culture of violence that springs from it. We need to "cancel" "artists" who glamorize drugs, misogyny and violence, and perpetuate attitudes of hopelessness and victimhood. We need to boost the influence of positive role models who show kids the path to success and empowerment is through education or learning a trade, not becoming a rap star or professional athlete.

3) Face misogyny head on. SO many homicides trace back to a simple problem. A man, who believes he is entitled to the attention (if not outright ownership) of a woman. If said man is rejected by a woman, he seeks revenge on the unjust world by killing said woman, or her family, or a man who looked at her in a bar, or simply random strangers. This is a common thread running between mass shooters , domestic violence killings, bar parking lot massacres, AND even the drug related homicides.

I don't have all the stats in front of me and I'm not going to bicker over numbers. I sat across the table from HUNDREDS of killers, even more victims families, talked with them, and this is what I learned.

BUT, I fail to see where "more time hiring qualified police" would have changed the outcome of this incident. There were over 300 officers in the Quarter, and at least one of them ran towards the gunfire and shot this killer, likely preventing more deaths.

The bollards on Bourbon Street are removable, because it is only closed to vehicle traffic some of the time. They were in the process of upgrades to an improved, more secure system, so there were openings.

Many families of all socioeconomic levels and political parties struggle with addiction and mental heath issues. Adults can't be forced to undergo treatment or take their meds. Your ignorance on this subject is mind boggling.

As the parent of a child with specialty medication needs, I lose my temper with insurance companies about once a month, practically on schedule. It has become almost impossible to get claims handled without raising holy hell. I save up all my problem calls, and try to handle them all the same day so I don't ruin the rest of my week. A whole lot of , "please escalate this to your supervisor", and what is your name, so I can add it to my letter to your corporate office".

Somettimes it takes hours on hold just to get past the script reading overseas call centers and into the US. I've been retired for a long time, and we knew decades ago that "shaken baby syndrome" by itself was simply not provable. It IS a real thing, but it takes a lot of corroborating physical and circumstantial evidence to prove something like that, and in the criminal justice system, if you can't prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, it didn't happen. I have worked cases where I knew without question,min my own heart, that parents abused a child, but that is not enough to secure a conviction. In those cases all yiu can do is pray. This idoes not appear to be one of those cases. I pray that the family can heal from what the system has done to them.

Digging deeper into this story, I learned that this sad miscarriage of justice was perpetrated by a cast of inexperienced characters. Dr. Pham, the primary conspirator, was 1.5 years into his studies to become a specialist in child abuse pediatrics.His mentor had been a doctor for only 2 years, yet felt qualified to testify that child abuse was the ONLY possible cause for this baby's injuries. The police were from a 36 man small town police department that seldom investigates a homicide. What could go wrong.

Based on this story (and cautious to recognize it tells only one side) there is no probable cause or basis for prosecution of this man. Any experienced physician knows there are other possible causes of subdural hematoma than abuse. It was right for the medical team to report their suspicions, and up to the investigators to determine if there was additional evidence supporting a charge of child abuse. And there is usually a whole lot more evidence in actual abuse cases, once you start digging into it. It appears that they didn't find anything more, but the inexperienced investigators treated the inexperienced doctor's word as gospel and pushed ahead.

And who the hell is the judge who signed the warrant? Even when child abuse is a certainty, there is no probable cause for arrest without evidence of WHICH parent or caretaker inflicted the injury,

I looked for source documentation (arrest report, warrant, etc) but could not find them. I'm wondering if there is more to this story left out by the the author. If not, I hope the Flannery sue everybody and win.
