"The M1 was phased out in the 1950s."
The M1 (and its many knock-offs) have been used in action and for leisure in the 5-6 decades since that time. Hundreds of thousands of men (and women) around the world have learned how to handle the weapon, which includes topside insertion of an en-bloc clip after you have exhausted (read: emptied) the previous one. After the ammo is spent, the clip is automatically ejected topside and in goes a new one. So the use of the word "clip" instead of "magazine" is understood asnd is not in any way archaic or obsolete.
Sure you can fire the M1 without a clip, and just jam a bunch of 30-06 rounds into the thing, but as soon as you fire your first round and pull back the operating lever the rest of your ammo will go flying out of the top of it. I've done it before just to be a smart-ass.
I'm not part of the ------- American gun culture that has to go around waving their guns and stupid semantic gun knowledge like unzipping their tiny dicks and poking them up in the air, and I could care less about Donnerboy's claims to be a Marine, but many many people refer to the "clip" in common vernacular. So take your ------- dick-waving MAGA-zine nonsense elsewhere, Mao-Miao.
