DC is an actual swamp... full of swamp creatures... It's very lush with all sorts of vegetation... In the summer... you can really feel it too... everything wilts in the humidity. I've seen that pool full of ducks and geese... Especially when the Canada geese are migrating... it was part of its charm... doh. AK is not for the faint of heart. You can make a lot of money working there... it just takes so much to live there. All the money you save on taxes is spent on essentials. It's not unusual for people to work on the North Slope but live in TN, VA, KY... they set the schedules 6 weeks on 4 weeks off and such...
