Wondering whatever happened to your $125 from the Equifax settlement?

#111 and #112 haven't heard either of those before but #111 is more correct more infections means more chances of mutation. If however we have say 70% vaccination then new cases can be caught quickly and new variants identified quickly so they can be rapidly quarantined. So I don't really see that as an excuse to not get vaccinated. In fact if you are worried about immigrants and visitors then even more reason to get vaccinated.
#112 So the argument is that if you get vaccinated against something that can kill you it might mutate into something that could kill you more effectively so best to just let the first version kill you?

Dem refusal to close the borders.
Right just twiddling their thumbs, wasn't it just a few weeks ago the meme was Biden was still locking kids up and detention facilities were overcrowded? Which VP was it that literally said don't come was that Pence? No? Oh yeah it was Harris.

You could also through in a few million under the libs for Vietnam.
Except Eisenhower was a republican. Either way trying to compare political alignments from the 50-60's with today is a fools errand.
Again, 100% of deaths attributed to the delta variant are on him. 100% of the economic and social disruption due to the delta variant is on him.
For real? Because Biden isn't trying everything to get people vaccinated while republicans compare his efforts with the gestapo?

I'm not an expert on Germany political, social and economic issues but from my understanding yes they do have both strong social protections and capitalism.
I agree with Bill on this one capitalism without social protections will fail because capital tends to chew up the workers like any other commodity it uses. Social protections without capital support are just empty promises.
Honestly this feels so basic to me I don't really understand what you are arguing against.

Oh good grief two letters and it gets censored? Who knew the target audience of this blog spends the day watching blues clues.

Scotte, most of the guys I know in the trades are always looking for a good hire. We are all perpetually overloaded so pretty much any employee who shows promise we will do our best to get on a fast training track. Unfortunately management can be our worst enemy in that regards.

Not interested in a cruise myself let alone 5 months but if you are looking at a vacation they almost always have a sign up for our mailing list to get the latest news option, so if you are looking at it sign up for the mailing list then they email you the day or week before and boom that's how you know. Or you have a travel agent who knows what you want and keeps their ear to the ground.
We were talking about a trip to Iceland to go borealis hunting and I signed up for their list. An agent from the company emailed me the next day asking what kind of things I was looking for and sent me a list of similar stuff available. I told her none were close enough to what I wanted for the price I was willing to pay. She said if an exact match opened up or they had a deal she would be in touch. Sometimes they have group excursions that don't fill up so if we could jump quickly she might be able to get us a sweet deal.

My mind is blown Comcast has data limits for home internet? That's some next level BS.
Heck I have "unlimited" mobile data (I get choked over 50GB but not charged extra) home is truly unlimited and I can't imagine having to decide if I had the data available to stream the show/movie I want to watch.
Man I'm sorry for you Judity, hopefully a company that isn't garbage moves into your area soon.

The biggest issue with telling a kid to skip college and go in the trades and make 70-100k a year is they do then spend the first couple years digging ditches or doing the grunt work for 12-15 an hour and say screw this and quit.
We see it ALL the time a 20 something starts is worked half to death for the same or less than they can get working in the AC at Target and leave. Then they end up stuck as a Target employee for life. Don't set unrealistic expectations. We have one kid here who almost did that. I had a talk with him though because he's smart as heck and I didn't want to lose him, also he's a nice kid and a good worker. I told him take the pay hit for a couple years and I'll make sure you get training and in 5 years you'll be making twice what you would be. He listened and is getting trained as I type, unfortunately the stone department stole him.

Oh yeah consumers are getting shafted, at least the ones who suffered real harm. In my case no real harm so 7 bucks is a win. However if you actually had identity theft as a result well I guess --?

The banks did ok also, something like 5.5 million for them. One of the many articles I saw mentioned it but I wasn't trying to get into a banks suck discussion so I didn't post that one :)

Boaz there is no way in heck an entry level tradesman makes 70k a year in NC. Not sure how many you know but I know a ton and I make more than all but a few. I make about 80k a year after over a decade working an average of 55 hours a week. The few I know making more than me are pushing 20 years in the trades.

The especially if they own their own business part is the issue. Also that 150 an hour? He owns his own business so he has to pay payroll taxes on that. So figure 40 hours at 150 an hour 6k a week, taxes eat probably 30% so 2k, liability insurance another 50 a week, health insurance another 250 a week, gas another 50 incidental parts another 50. So generously he's pulling 90 net an hour.
Then how much does he have tied up in tools and a truck? How many years did he have to work for someone else making 15-20 an hour, how much a year does his electrical license cost and how many hours does he need to dedicate to in-services and keeping up to date for testing?
Yeah by the time he gets there he's making good money but it didn't start out that way and the money you are paying him is before a whole lot of expenses.

Boaz is making the mistake of comparing self employed trades with trades still working for a company.
During the day at my full-time job I only get 20 an hour. Nights and weekends I average 100 an hour including drive time. Thing is it takes years to build up the customer base and the tool stock to go your own way. I'm close and probably could do it but I want a bigger cushion first.
Thing is I've been working towards that goal for almost a decade now if I started today I'm not sure I would be making enough to build the tool stock up the way I could over the past decade and my boss is trying to find someone for 14, at that low unless they are still living at home they will never save up enough to start their own thing.

I looked at dumping Netflix but there is just too much on there. I pay for the top level one so I can run 4 screens at a time, it means my kids can keep using mine and in one case he gets a discount on rent since he provides the Netflix for the house. I also enjoy a lot of what is on HBO so I get that through Hulu. Verizon covers Hulu and Disney plus so I only pay the 6 for ad free Hulu and 14.99 for HBO. So 39 dollars a month for TV. I would love to drop it down but I use Netflix and HBO more than enough to make it worthwhile.

I started 14 years ago before the newest rules and my doctor knew from day 1 I smoked. When I had to sign the agreement last year it mentioned weed and I asked him about it. He told me he didn't have to drug test and knew me well enough to know not to test me.
He said the next MS patient I get who works 70 hours a week without pain meds will be his first and the next opiate patient he gets who goes over 5 years without asking for an increase in dosage will be his second so he's not worried about me. He has to have the agreement on file though but he still has the flexibility in how he enforces it.
My only fears about it are if the government tries to take away his flexibility or if he retires and the next doctor doesn't have the relationship with me to know why he has been managing my treatment so loosely.

So I just filled a BCBS claim on a class account against them and that got me thinking, what's up with the Equifax settlement.
Oh boy is it a mess. This is just one of the articles about what is going on but there are plenty more if you care to google it.
From what I can tell:
Settlements won't be paid out until at least 2024
The check or debit card will be mailed to the address you filed so good luck if you move.
It looks like the $125 will be more like $7
I hope no one here was seriously impacted because it looks like the odds of you getting anything close to fair compensation are tiny.

Danni I have been paperless for years I also can go back and pull up a PDF or email of years worth of bills. So going paperless doesn't stop you from protecting yourself. Autopay though I only use with two companies Verizon cause I get an autopay discount and progress energy cause I'm on equal pay so I don't have to worry about surprises.
Autopay is where they get you because you might not even notice the charges until too late.

Open fire outdoors vs an enclosed space with multiple heat sources, sure sounds like the same thing to me.
Donners not wrong either what was life expectancy back then? 30? Sure let's go back to when men were men, women died in childbirth and most kids didn't make it to double digits. Who would have thought a trumper would be for negative population growth.

We pay 70 for internet 18 for Netflix and 21 for Disney plus Hulu plus HBO max, so 109 a month total. Internet service was advertised at 70 and it costs 70 no hidden fees and hasn't changed price in like 5 years. Haven't had cable TV service in like 5 years. Sometimes we spring for sling during hockey season but this year we were too busy and couldn't watch enough games to justify it.

We had to replace our water heater about 5 years ago and looked at switching but they were 3x as expensive. You can get them in gags also and should be a bit cheaper to operate than an equivalent gas tank heater but at 3x the cost I just couldn't do it. The old tank that died was 30+ years old so we saw a pretty significant savings just with the efficiency gains of 30 years of engineering I don't think at the price difference at the time that it would have ever paid for itself. Hopefully in another 5-10 when this one goes the price will have come down even more.

#12 Since windows first known use was 13th century BC I don't think they opened the windows 10,000 years ago.
Additional windows are something Burger Kings don't have many of.
They also have to deal with, the hot stove, fryer, heat given off by refrigerators etc. All stuff they had to deal with 10,000 years ago right?

Lamp you might be surprised. Faucets, fireplaces, molding all industries that you would think are stable can see a sudden swing in consumer preferences. If you get caught with 1000 brass faucets when everyone decides they want chrome you are up the creek. It might not be as often as toys fall in and out of favor but the carrying costs are typically much much higher so missing a call could be crushing to a business.
Heck just in repairs I've gotten stuck. One year a neighborhood built by one builder will call me for 30 different houses so I'll order some extra components for the fireplace they use. Next season no calls from that fireplace. Good news for me is in a few years that old one will cycle back and parts don't go bad but at this point I probably have 3-5k in leftover parts. If I just order as needed I wouldn't have any leftovers.
