Re: #53

Manufacturing Revitalization:
"During the Biden-Harris Administration, over 700,000 new manufacturing jobs have been created and over $910 billion in private manufacturing investments have been announced nationwide. As manufacturing has soared, so too has the opportunity for workers of all backgrounds to get good-paying, quality jobs."

Immigration Reform:
"By taking 535 immigration actions over its first three years, the Biden administration has already outpaced the 472 immigration-related executive actions undertaken in all four years of President Donald Trump's term."

www.migrationpolicy.org

Both are commendable goals. The reality is the Biden administration did more to accomplish those goals than the Trump administration and not just "lately". Can more be done? Of course! That likely will always be true. I find it curious that a BIPARTISAN bill to improve the immigration situation was explicitly requested to be blocked prior to the election by President-elect Trump. I can appreciate that he wanted to create political hay prior to the election, but to claim President Biden was creating an immigration problem is disingenuous.
If anything, one could argue that President-elect Trump is the one borrowing President Biden's ideas and doing so "lately". All this info is/was available via multiple news sources if one were willing to do the research.

"In 2016 he promised what he's promising now. What he delivered, the Dem admin that I just voted for the VP of, approved all of what was actually implemented and increased them.

Gaslighting ourselves is part of the reason we just lost, badly.

It's not what President-elect Trump is promising now and that is the salient point.

If he's promising the same thing now as he promised in 2016 and the same tariffs were carried forward by the Biden administration, what makes this a new way forward in 2024?
For the record, some of the tariffs implemented by then President Trump's first administration resulted in disaster. The situation with soy bean farmers back then comes to mind.

However, what President-elect Trump is promising is much more extensive and larger tariffs. Few, if any, policy makers are promoting the elimination of ALL tariffs. As has been pointed out by several others, tariffs have a place and a purpose if prudently applied. The concern is that President-elect Trump, in general, does not exercise much wisdom and prudence. This is especially true in regards to his proposals for future tariffs. Historically, President-elect Trump has repeatedly acted like a loose cannon. Cannons serve a purpose; loose cannons are destructive. If we were dealing with a crazy uncle's rants or a drunk curmudgeon at the local bar, this would be a quaint/interesting discussion. That is not the situation we are dealing with. To not recognize the difference between the tariffs implemented in President-elect Trump's first administration with what he is proposing now, is quintessential gaslighting.
