... . Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals didn't recuse himself from a 2011 case challenging California's same-sex marriage ban, even though his wife directed an American Civil Liberties Union chapter that had joined two district-court briefs in the case. "The views are hers, not mine, and I do not in any way condition my opinions on the positions she takes regarding any issues," Reinhardt wrote. Judicial ethics experts led by Stephen Gillers filed a brief defending Reinhardt on grounds that his wife's "opinions, views, and public pronouncements of support for the district court decision below do not trigger any reasonable basis to question Judge Reinhardt's ability to honor his oath of office." Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg ... was outspokenly anti-Trump in 2016. She called the Republican candidate a "faker" and criticized him for not releasing his tax returns. She didn't recuse herself from any case involving Mr. Trump
Donald Trump's ex-attorney Michael Cohen admitted Monday to stealing from the Trump Organization during testimony in the former president's hush money payment trial. Cohen, who served as Trump's longtime lawyer and "fixer," is continuing his testimony this week in the case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The DA has charged Trump with falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. Bragg's case says the payment was intended to prevent her from going public about her allegation that she and Trump had had a sexual encounter.
President Joe Biden, who wears bespoke sneakers to prevent embarrassing collapses and whose command of the English language rivals that of most kindergarteners, is in bad political shape. that poll has Donald Trump leading in five of the six swing states that will decide the 2024 election"two by double digits, and another two by seven points each. It also found that President Biden is seriously underperforming with young people and people of color, key voting blocs that he will need to win in November; that a sizable majority have deep reservations about Biden's ability to lead the economy; and that many voters have forgotten, or no longer object to, some of the most disastrous aspects of Trump's presidency. With crank independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the ballot, Biden's support dips as low as 30 percent. The poll is rightly causing panic among Democrats, but it also shows that the election is not a lost cause for the party. While the numbers for Biden specifically are terrible, other Democrats are performing quite well.
#57. Except that it isn't the legislature spending money. Had Congress passed a bill relieving these debts and POTUS signed it into law these lawsuits wouldn't be happening.
