I've lived in the South for almost 40 years as an adult (you're 50, Boaz? And went from your childhood to overseas posts?), in a number of different states, three of which border North Carolina. The climate's changing everywhere. Less snow everywhere, for one thing. Talk to the oldtimey mountain people (many of whom are Trumpers), and they can tell you all the changes they've seen in recent decades. Deep South bugs moving north, thunder with snowstorms . . .

I've never had any use for messianic Jews. To me they are Christians, not that there's anything wrong with that. But they aren't Jews any longer, in my opinion. I've been to a few messianic services, and each time it was a born-Jewish rabbi talking to a congregation of Pentecostals who needed another day in church.

One time my wife and I attended a messianic service, and the rabbi began faith healing. My mainline Christian wife just started laughing.
