Democracy allows, no...it insists, that there be at least two independent political parties keeping the other in check.
My Founding Father George Washington would disagree with "democracy " on this matter.
Washington believed that intense party loyalty (factionalism) would foster a "spirit of revenge" and enable "cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men" to seize power, ultimately ruining public liberty. (Sound familiar?)
He argued that factions would divide the nation and obstruct the execution of laws. (Ring any bells yet?)
Washington warned that political factions could open the doors to foreign influence and corruption, as parties might seek assistance from foreign powers to gain an advantage over their rivals. (It's almost like he predicted Trumpy and his Saudi Jet)
He predicted that the alternating domination of one faction over another, spurred by the desire for revenge, would eventually lead to a "formal and permanent despotism".
Damn. George was a pretty smart guy. We should have listened to him.
"So sewage in the Chesapeake is now a "problem" to you?"
It was a "problem" before you discovered it and then desperately tried to blame it on a democrat when it's clearly the Federal Government's responsibility.
And it's still a problem. Because Trumpy insists on lying about it and trying to use it as a politcal bludgeon to further divide Americans.
And it would NOT be a problem much longer if the states and the feds could actually work together. You know.. Like they did with the Francis Scott Key bridge disaster.
