Sorry...should have included the date of when I originally posted that comment. It was several days before he dropped out.

My original point was that I visited Monticello and the tour guides were fixated on one topic and failed to mention all his other accomplishments.
That's not supporting slavery or defending him owning slaves.

I don't believe you. I've taken the tour and they definitely covered many of Jefferson's other achievements. It's been a few years but I explicitly recall them covering Jefferson as an architect, his role in the founding of the country and the declaration, his many political positions, his role in westward expansion including the Lewis & Clark expedition and the Louisiana purchase, his family and many other topics about Jefferson. Yes, they do frequently mention slavery as well but slavery was highly critical aspect of his life and the country overall. To ignore or to gloss over it would be obscuring Jefferson's legacy. Examining his life is in many ways a microcosm for examining the country.

Records from the time are incomplete but Jefferson was perhaps the most prolific slaver alive at the founding of the US. The Declaration of Independence was a complete contradiction to how he lived his own life. It's not like the thought never occurred to Jefferson that slavery was abhorrent. His original draft of the Declaration called slavery the "cruel war against human nature."

Ben Franklin freed his slaves before the revolutionary war ended. Not Jefferson though. The reason slavery is mentioned so often at Monticello is because Monticello could not have existed without slavery. It was built and maintained by slaves. Slaves did the cooking, maintenance and agricultural work. Slaves played a bigger role in the existence of Monticello than Jefferson ever did. It may still exist today only because, unlike Washington who freed his slaves upon his death, Jefferson's slaves were sold to cover his debts.

US Senate and state governor are two very different jobs. It is a fools errand to believe the person who finished 2nd in the choice for governor nominee is automatically the next best choice for US Senate. Shah has outstanding credentials in administration but he has no experience in law making. That is the area in which Jackson has thrived.

Platner is, as the kids say, cooked. He should drop out immediately so the party can officially start the business of selecting a replacement. My recommendation, Troy Jackson. He doesn't have the charisma of Platner but he's a known quantity in Maine politics having served in multiple terms in both the state house and senate. His politics are similar to Platner's so much so that they endorsed each other when Jackson was running for the Democratic primary nomination for governor in the recent election. He lost that one but it was a strange election with Jackson being one of 4 candidates to receive at least 20% of the first place votes in what was a ranked choice election.

Sometimes I love being right. Credit to the Democratic party of Maine for selecting an upstanding progressive. I would have said other options would be a toss up or likely loss but I think Jackson is likely to send Collins packing.

I checked into it. The 90% doesn't apply to all ICE detentions.
Judges have determined ICE has acted in excess of their authority though.
I said before I believe ICE did need to be reigned in.
I have also said in the past that those 2 particular deaths, they did accomplish what they wanted to do with their deaths.
The word martyr would apply, I guess.

Of course it's not all ice detentions. That's because ICE has been expediting deportations in order to deny people adjudication of their case.

Those are lies you have chosen to believe. If ICE was acting within the authority of the law then the DoJ wouldn't be losing 90%+ of detention cases. The truth is that ICE is acting illegally and has targeted many people who are in the country legally.

I agree 100% they would be alive if they had not needlessly chosen to challenge ICE.
They weren't even targets or who ICE was seeking, but inserted themselves into the situation.

I saw this story on youtube about a year ago. The extremely smug cop treated her as if there was no possible way he could be wrong. He told her he was 100% certain it was her and was trying to get her to say something that could be viewed as incriminating. She ended up finding the video of the theft on one of those doorbell camera sites. There was no vehicle seen in the video. Her and the thief both had blond hair but The thief had clearly different facial structure, different build and was considerably younger in appearance.
Cops are trained liars. Don't believe them. Don't offer them any cooperation without an attorney present even if you feel 100% certain you have not broken the law. They will lie and twist your words. If they come to your property without a warrant then tell them to leave.

The Suez connects the Red Sea in the north to the Mediterranean. Bab al-Mandab connects the Red Sea in the south to the Indian Ocean. From a global shipping perspective cutting off either point forces ships to take the longer round around Africa which adds about a week and half to two weeks to the voyage.
Bab al-Mandab has taken on an elevated level of importance to global petroleum trade because Saudi Arabia has increased exports through eastern ports on the Red Sea since the closure of Hormuz. Bab al-Mandab is critical in getting Saudi oil to the global market because of distance to travel but also because the Suez has limited capacity. Fully loaded supertankers cannot navigate the Suez. That would force SA to use smaller ships or offload the supertankers at the SUMED pipeline and refill in the Mediterranean.
