#44, and why are they trying mass deportation? in response to earlier actions. Not saying this is right or the earlier actions were wrong. Each side feels they are taking appropriate actions in response to the other(right or wrong).

So if we are going to get out of the situation where we have vigilantes we have to look how the back and forth occurred and what each sides perception was and what they thought they were acting in response to and trying to achieve. Again whether it was right wrong or the other. Right/Wrong and blame do nothing in figuring how we got here.

This isn't a both sides are the same thing, and the left most certainly is a player in this. I think what you mean there is that the left did nothing wrong, and all the rights actions were done in a vacuum.

Happy to roll that one around too, but I think it is more beneficial to discuss it as the left being an active participant. For instance the Left did enact sanctuary cities. Right or wrong in your view, it was still an active action in this story. So they did SOMETHING, and the right responded to it. You may feel the response was bad and that is fine. It was still a back and forth.

Snoofy, there is a difference in ones actions leading someone else to take actions that cause you to take actions... ad naseum.

Ultimately someone will do something stupid(pose as a fake agent) but that doesn't mean you are at fault.

However, it is necessary to step back and view how that back and forth has gotten us into an environment that is enabling bad behavior, in order to try to unravel the bad situation.

This is an unfortunate outcome of the escalation of activities on the left and the right in regards to illegal immigration enforcement.

The left hasn't cooperated, so the right upped the intensity in areas of sanctuary cities in response. So the left tried to impeded those agents, and the right brought in more unqualified agents, and this back and forth has escalated. Now even the good agents are doxed and have to hide their identities.

This opens the door to vigilante impersonators.

Like the language around gun control... we need to de-escalate the immigration issue, and come up with some common sense cooperation on it's enforcement for the safety of all.

I knowingly concede in the climate we are currently at this won't be possible. I'm not assigning blame or excusing anyone, I'm only stepping back and looking at the state of the state on this. If you want to assign a position on the topic to me based on this post, you've missed the point of the observation.

My post was clearly written from the perspective of looking back knowing more, but remembering that at the time there was a lot of talk about his district not being a continuous area but a collection of differing areas of the state. I didn't really know what it meant at the time, but it all came back to me with his passing and all the happening in CA,TX, and VA as of late.

And I said kid, not toddler. I was old enough to have clear memories of it and was probably in middle school. That's old enough to get the gist but not care about the details.

I lived in his district but was only a kid and not aware of politics... Looking back even then I do recall the battles over districting, gerrymandering, etc... I always thought it was weird that the parts that made his district weren't even connected, and being an adult now realizing just how disparate the make up of the citizens in those geo-areas are/were. Seems like some issues just keep repeating themselves.

I don't fault him, he played the game as the cards were dealt and as said above was an effective rep.

You'll note that I said in vague theory it's not out of bounds to consider it, obviously it would be a specific ID that would indicate citizenship.

#8 No, they live here and the policies my impact them, but they are not as fully invested. The moment the consequences of choices aren't good, they can just pick up and leave. Citizens cannot. They are less vested in good long term solutions than a citizen SHOULD be.

For many I think the concept of voter ID is mentally linked to citizen only voting(rightfully or wrongly so). I don't think it's out of bounds to have the position that only US Citizens should be voting in our elections. If I stay at my friends house, I don't get a vote on where they'll go for their family vacation.

Having been on a BIG10 campus at the height of the protests, I can assure there were violent pockets in those protests and friends of my son who were Jewish had to hide in Hillel on more than one occasion, blocked from entering campus buildings, or intimidated from even stepping foot on campus.

Whataboutism isn't going to improve the situation, and letting it continue will definitely get us to a worse place. If this has all been a back and forth wave, it feels as though that wave amplitude is increasing. At some point something will snap. For the good of all of us, ignoring it now because it's this teams turn to do it can't be acceptable.
