BaFin to Deepen Deutsche Bank Money Laundering Investigation (Feb 2019)
www.financemagnates.com

...Deutsche Bank released a statement on Friday saying that BaFin, the German financial regulator, has extended the remit of an independent auditor examining the lender's role in the Danske Bank money laundering scandal.

The case stems from an ongoing investigation into the Danish bank's Estonian division.

After a whistle-blower sounded the alarm about the activity of certain customers, most of whom were from Russia and the former Soviet Union, in late 2018, it became apparent that Danske Bank's Tallinn-based operations were doing business with some less than scrupulous individuals.

It is alleged that the bank laundered around $225 billion from 2007 to 2014. If that is the case, it would potentially be the largest instance of money laundering ever uncovered.

Deutsche Bank falls into the mix as it acted as Danske Bank's main correspondent bank. According to the Financial Times, the German bank was responsible for facilitating $180 billion in suspicious transactions....

At one state its asking price was as high as US$54m. ...

The property's most recent sellers, financier Robert Steinberg and his wife, Suzanne Steinberg, purchased it in 1998 for $15 million.

After their purchase, the couple spent some two years renovating the structure -- removing gilded touches and tacking on an extra 5,000 square feet, which now house an indoor pool for doing laps and two apartments for guests. ...

Let's Just Listen To Music': Trump Turns Town Hall Into Concert Prompting Mockery From Harris
www.forbes.com

... Former President Donald Trump's Town Hall in Pennsylvania on Monday turned into a more than half-hour-long "music fest" where the former president slowly swayed and danced while the crowd slowly streamed out of the venue, prompting immediate mockery from both Vice President Kamala Harris and her campaign.

Key Facts

Trump town hall was interrupted by two separate medical emergencies in the crowd, which he blamed on the heat as moderator, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, quipped about the venue being unable to afford air conditioning "in this economy."

Trump called for Ave Maria to be played at first during both interruptions but the former president spoke only briefly after the second person received treatment.

Trump then said: "Let's not do any more questions. Let's just listen to music. Let's make it into a music fest. Who the hell wants to hear questions right? Isn't that beautiful?"

Trump then stood on stage swaying and bobbing to the music while the crowd appeared unsure if the event was over, the Associated Press reported.

After the Village People's "YMCA" was played"usually a song played at the end of Trump's rallies"the former president remained on stage and asked, "Nobody's leaving, what's going on?"

A few more songs were played as the "music fest" segment of the town hall lasted more than 30 minutes, as the crowd slowly streamed out of the venue, and ended only when Trump finally left the stage. ...

Jikelele kulomhlaba wethu

Es una historia de mañana
Es una historia de amor
Es una historia que amor reinar
Por nuestro mundo
Es una historia de mi corazn

There's songs to make you smile
There's songs to make you sad
But with a happy song to sing
It never seems as bad
To me came this melody
So I've tried to put in words how I feel
Tomorrow will be for you and me

I am singing of tomorrow
I am singing of love
I am singing someday love will reign
Throughout this world of ours
I am singing of love from my heart

Let's all sing someday sweet love will reign
Throughout this world of ours
Let's start singing
Of love from our hearts
Let's start singing
Of love from our hearts

... Diplomatic ties between India and Canada sunk to a new low on Monday as each expelled six diplomats in tit-for-tat moves in an escalating dispute over the killing of an Canadian Sikh activist in Vancouver last year.

Canada has alleged that agents linked to the Indian government were involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen and prominent campaigner for a sovereign Sikh state " known as Khalistan " in northern India.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on Monday identified India's envoy as a "person of interest" in its investigation, and Canada's Foreign Ministry asked the diplomat and five others to leave the country. India soon responded in kind.

Trudeau: 'India has made fundamental error'

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday evening that India had "made a fundamental error in choosing to use their diplomats and organized crime to attack Canadians."

"As the RCMP commissioner stated earlier, they have clear and compelling evidence that agents of the government of India have engaged in and continue to engage in activities that pose a significant threat to public safety," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said after the news of the diplomats being sent home.

"This includes clandestine information gathering techniques, coercive behavior targeting South Asian Canadians, and involvement in over a dozen threatening and violent acts, including murder. This is unacceptable," Trudeau said.

He added: "Canada is a country rooted in the rule of law and the protection of our citizens is paramount. We will never tolerate the involvement of a foreign government threatening and killing Canadian citizens on Canadian soil."

Canadian police have charged multiple Indian nationals in Nijjar's murder. ...
