Despite expectations of radical change, the new administration will likely be similar to previous ones, particularly in foreign policy, due to the entrenched bureaucracy and the limited power of elected officials to effect substantial change. Americans don't fully appreciate the structural limitations of the presidency and therefore have unrealistic expectations of Trump's ability to bring about significant change.

Trump and Vance are not strong enough to replace Washington or even control it. They can do what any Republican administration does: bring in a different faction of staffers. This will change a few things that the government does in some ways. It will not involve any serious changes to the way government works or we live our lives.

Their lack of strength is not their fault. As democratic leaders, they have only the strength that the voters give them. The voters are not ready to trust them with full power over the government, which is the only way they could get anything done. They are not strong enough because we did not give them enough strength.

Worse, by refusing to see the difference between the dramatic narrative and the sordid reality, by investing emotional energy in the drama without any equivalent energy in wanting to make it real, or any anger that it is not real ... you give your leaders no choice.

Arm fetuses.

Yes, you've heard me right. If a fetus is indeed considered a person, it should have the right to defend itself. Why not provide it with the means to do so? A specially designed tiny firearm could be developed and inserted into its hand, or hands, after, say, fourteen weeks of gestation under the supervision of a doctor or certified professional.

Heaven forbid, if an abortion were to occur after said point, the armed fetus could defend itself by shooting the doctor or hospital staff. The fetus would be exercising its right to float its sac' as in the amniotic sac. The act would be like stand your ground', only by a fetus.

This would not only protect the unborn child but also serve as a powerful deterrent to those contemplating abortion. Imagine the conversations around the water cooler. "Did you hear about the armed fetus law? Makes you think twice, huh?"

Additionally, this would serve as a deterrent for people engaging in intimate activity, as they would think twice knowing that the baby they would conceive may end up armed and dangerous. That would give folks pause, leading to a new era of prudence and caution.

Of course, this idea is still in its conceptual stage and requires further discussion as we work towards a uniquely American solution that involves the collaboration of all citizens.

How else do we form opinions about candidates? Interviews and voting records are all we've got. Most people form opinions from first impressions.

Vance sold his soul to be Trump's VP. Most of Trump's acolytes do. That said, Vance is the one I feel more comfortable with out of all of them. He's a rock ribbed conservative in the tradition of Pence and Jeb! Take away him pandering to the pro-lifers and he seems like he'd be able to compromise reasonably. Plus, he's a Yale educated Marine. Not bad bonifides. Still won't make me vote for Trump.
