This notice was obtained by ABC News and signifies a shift from the traditional rule where Canadians crossing the northern border by land and staying for longer than 30 days did not have to register. The Secretary of Homeland Security has the authority to change this rule unilaterally. Starting from April 11, Canadians who stay for over 30 days will need to apply for registration with the federal government and will also be required to be fingerprinted.
