The same people who vehemently insist we shouldn't believe everything Trump says when he screws up are now telling us to believe everything Trump says.

So Trump is now technically the first woman president?

Inskeep: You suggest a scenario where Trump is effectively using these tech leaders. They're up on stage with him, as though they're totems of his triumph. Are you sure that he's not using you, though, that it might be the reverse, that they're going to get what they want out of this and you're not?

Bannon: This is all a process, right? This is a populist, nationalist revolution in this country. It's been building for a long time. Nevertheless, there is a lesson here for liberals that we should perhaps heed while Democrats in Washington debate how supine they want to get for the incoming administration. During Trump's first term, much of the mainstream left organized itself around the idea that "this was not normal" and that surely our over-regarded system of norms would save us from Trump. And so deep investments were made in various quick fixes"an impeachment effort and the Mueller investigation chief among them"that seemed to offer the hope of prematurely canceling the Trump presidency, without much regard for how difficult it is to actually oust a president (or for the decades of evidence suggesting that our justice system routinely fails to hold the rich and powerful to account, more broadly).

A second Trump era offers the opportunity for a change of course"a second reckoning of sorts. I think that Last is on to something when he suggests that Trump's opposition should force him to "own every bad outcome that happens, anywhere in the world." I'd actually take this a step further. Rather than exert so much energy trying to thrust Trump out of the presidency, liberals would be well served to spend their time thrusting the presidency upon Donald Trump. Instead of searching for illusory quick fixes for the existence of the Trump administration, start demanding the Trump administration fix everything quickly.

Schadenfreude may well be the only thing that gets many of us through the next four years with our sanity intact.

More: On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson told CNN's Manu Raju that there should be "conditions" on the proposed federal aid to California in the wake of the deadly wildfires in Los Angeles County.

"It appears to us that state and local leaders were derelict in their duty in many respects, so that's something that has to be factored in. I think there should probably be conditions on that aid."

Asked whether he planned on conditioning the aid to debt ceiling negotiations, Johnson said that option is on the table. "There's some discussion about that, but we'll see where it goes."
