When I was a kid... us kids played outside out of our parent's view and earshot until street lights went on.... or curfew and we returned home. Our folks didn't know half the crap we did, saw, or where we snuck off to. It's part of individuation... growing up. Occasionally someone would commit suicide... or attempt to... it's incredibly sad.

I knew my kids didn't tell me everything they were up to... I got my share of surprises... but I reminded them often... there are more ways to end something troubling you than killing yourself. Once or twice a local kid said goodbye like that... I listened... talked... and hoped they heard.

I also discussed euthanasia, self-sacrifice, harakiri, accidents and things Darwinian... death itself... which is going to happen anyway... what justifies rushing it?

They're in their 50's now... and I still remind them... and they still surprise me.

These are the same jerks who insist they need tax breaks.
