#20, 21 - I can tell you that everyday, my colleagues and I talk about when, not if the facility we work in will be closed and all manufacturing and laboratory activities will be moved to India. American drug manufacturing is being sent overseas daily because the american consumer just assumes that the quality of the generic drugs they consume are of the same efficacy and purity no matter where they come from, and that is not true. As far as profits, companies will do whatever they need to maximize profits. In this case sending manufacturing overseas is the easiest way.
The easiest way to ensure the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and medicine are kept in the United States would be to fund the FDA fully so that they can TRULY inspect and hold accountable the foreign manufacturing facilities to the same standards that US manufacturing facilities are held to. The cost to make drugs overseas would dramatically increase if the regulations were being followed.
