I usually say never assume malice where incompetence will suffice, but not in this case. It's as foolish as it is dangerous to assume that Trump is just an idiot who doesn't know what he is doing. He does, and he is profiting off it.

The world is full of countries that alternate between being the aggressor and playing the victim. The Chinese and the Russians often see themselves as the victims of those foreign devils and use that to justify the aggressions of their own countries. In the minds of Trump and his supporters, it's fair game to "hold a mirror up" to that behavior rather than leading by example. They have a lot in common with the far left SJWs with chips on their shoulders in that respect.

Hyping up weather events to get ratings is nothing new, but it really seems to be over the top now. The side effect is that people will take the warnings less seriously after predicted catastrophic events for their areas don't occur.

One of my Chinese professors in college worked at some of these institutes. There's probably some truth that some Chinese spying or cultural subversion goes on in them, just like there's probably some truth that it goes on in US NGOs, but I don't that's representative of them in either case.

Not sure if he worked at one in the U.S., but I know he was assigned to some in Thailand and also in Pakistan. He told me that that he heard OBL was hiding out in a village close to where he was. He also talked about how insanely hot it was there.

Bikl Maher had an excellent segment about free speech last night on his show. He said that in the future historians likely won't pay much attention to the camps people currently divide themselves into, but will note that this waa a time when free speech was regularly under attack. And yes, it is from Both Sides(tm), no matter how much your side pretends to champion free speech and liberty.

If it makes you feel better to call something you don't like or understand, go ahead. Just don't ever use the phrase "words mean things" again if you don't actually believe it.
