As an adult, I believe in the old saying: "You are the company you keep."

You obviously think Thomas Jefferson is an upright good-standing moral citizen who deserves to be celebrated for all the good things he did for this nation, including perpetuating slavery.

I think he's a bad man who did bad things, almost all of them for the purposes of perpetuating slavery.

You can shoehorn UVA into that framework, since plenty of religious leadership at the time was very adamantly pro-slavery, but UVA was built as a secular school.

You can even cast his Virginia Statue for Religious Freedom in this mold, since it put a wall between Church and State, the anti-slavery movement at the time was based in a reading of The Bible that you still probably don't agree with right now in the year 2026.

That means the tour is actually topical to Monicello.
Monticello is a slavery plantation. Monticello exists to bear the fruits of slave labor.
All they did there was slave away at the fields, and in Jefferson's bed if your name was Sally.

If you want to hear about Jefferson's accomplishments as Founder of University of Virginia, go on that tour.
If you want to hear about Jefferson as Author of the Declaration of Independence which ironically should have freed the slaves but didn't, go on that tour.

It's actually an intellectual act of colonialism and racism, that you're denying her existence a slave.

You're writing her out of history, and why? To hide the truth about Thomas Jefferson's personal choices when it comes to slavery and sex with kids.

Plenty of people of the time condemned him for taking one of his slave girls as a concubine. It was quite the topic in the press.

People understood then, and understand now, what kind of man does that. You're denying Thomas Jefferson is that kind of man, just like you deny Trump is that kind of man.
