An extremely-dangerous winter storm has arrived in California and will unload feet of snow, powerful winds and rare blizzard conditions in the mountains through the weekend.
Go back to the time before the atmospheric river has drenched California these past few months.
For example, from the link your current alias cites, scroll down a bit, the drought map from about a year ago:

Then there's this...
Growing Crops with Less Groundwater (April 2023)
www.ucdavis.edu
... California's warming climate also means thirstier trees and an increasing reliance on groundwater, especially during drought. UC researchers found that farms pumped 27% more water from aquifers last year compared with 2019. ...
As I noted, the current snow is only going to help.

@#8 ... Mine was a slushblower today. ...
Been there.
Indeed, I sized the engine on the snowblower to be able to throw slush a minimum of a 1/2 driveway width.
Two winters ago there was a slush storm. And the snowblower was able to clear the driveway of the slush. But I do say, based upon the sound from the engine, it was not happy about having to pump that water off the driveway. But it did its job.
Kudo to Ariens.

@#11 ... a Honda ...
Yeah.
My lawn mower (a Toro) has a Honda engine.
I told the tech who comes to my house every two years to maintain the power equipment that I am waiting for the lawn mower motor to die so I can justify buying a self-propelled mower. (long story)
He told me, good luck in that wait. Honda motors don't die, they just keep going, and going.
But to the point...
I just walked out to the garage (wow, a cold front passed through (57F this afternoon, 27F now)... but I digress. ...)
The engine on the snowblower is labeled "Tecumseh." ( en.wikipedia.org )
That engine has worked well, in my view, it is a survivor with the challenges I and nature have presented to it over the years.
The snow blower is about 15 years old, and it is still going strong.
If only there were the intensity of the snow storms we used to get here....
