Record Small Majority in the House for Republicans

"Yes. The Republicans are going to control the House of Representatives. But if all the current results hold up, we're looking at a record small majority ... in the last 90 years.

You have to go all the way back since the Herbert Hoover administration to find an even smaller majority at the November elections. "

"Enten added, "Keep in mind that this will drop lower," noting how now-former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) quit Congress after Trump unsuccessfully pushed for him to become attorney general.

Enten also highlighted that Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) are set to leave their House roles and join Trump's administration as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and national security adviser.

Then, Enten noted, there would be a 217-215 majority until special elections are held to fill those seats. The seats for Gaetz and Waltz are in reliably conservative areas.

"The bottom line is, look, the results from the November elections weren't exactly good for Democrats, but this is a shining light for them," he added.

"They really did hold the Republican majority down. And given the likely resignations that are coming, that House of Representatives for the Republicans, that House majority is going to be record, record small."

.

Of course, the Republican House the last few years made itself the laughing stock of politics and governance... when they had a larger majority than they will now.

A few defections and they are done on any vote.

OK, back in Pres-elect Trump's first term, there was a Republican House majority of, if i remember correctly, about 20.

And back then, that Republican majority has issues with trying to push bills through the House.

So, what is the Republican majority number now?

Granted, the GOP is a lot more obedient to the whims of the MAGA cult of late.

But a slim majority is just that, a slim majority.

Time will tell...

If only House members could cast their votes anonymously. Going against the traitor rapist is political suicide, if not actual suicide given the nutjobs out there

@#3 ... If only House members could cast their votes anonymously. ...

You mean like the Senate tossing out the Musk/Trump pick for majority leader?

Senator Rick Scott loses vote to become Senate Majority Leader
www.abcactionnews.com

... Florida Senator Rick Scott came up short in his second bid to be the Senate Majority Leader, losing to South Dakota Senator John Thune.

Senator Scott didn't make it until the third round of voting. He wasn't able to best Texas Senator John Cornyn, or Thune. ...

Not only wasn't able to "best" Texas Sen Thune, Sen Scott, the apparent anointed choice of Musk/Trump, came in last in the secret voting.

I think maybe Mitch McConnell had a lot to do with scuttling Scott as Majority Leader. McConnell seems to be on an "anti Trump" bent lately and his caucus still listens to him.

@#5 .. I think maybe Mitch McConnell had a lot to do with scuttling Scott as Majority Leader. ...

Yeah, while i do not necessarily agree or disagree with that ...

It was a secret election.

So if a Senator voted against what Sen McConnell proposed, it would not be known.

My point here is that the Musk/Trump anointed candidate came in dead last in the voting.

(and, yes, I do admit that I placed Mr Musk first in the "Musk/Trump" citation. Deal with it. :)         )
