President Trump has suggested publicly, and aides have signaled behind the scenes, that Elon Musk is still a staffer and needs to report to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.

I'm pretty sure that short of assassination, fElon Muskie has nothing to fear. OK, nothing to fear at all. His little group of want to be Muskies have already inserted code into all the fed payment systems that will cause the entire US government to collapse if something happens to old stink boy Muskie. I hope you tRump supporters are happy with what you have wrought. It's the bloodless (so far - I hope to change that a little and --) revolution you thought you were promised. I read about the rise of the 3rd Rich, I watched all the great documentaries about what lead up to Nazi Germany. I watched "The World at War", and "The Nuremberg Trials".
I read a lot of books because my dad insisted and he was right. He was an Air Force pilot late '40's early '50's.
History doesn't repeat, but it rimes.

Well, he seems to be ~reporting~ to Pres Trump.

But since he seems to own Pres Trump, I am not sure of the actual flow of commands in this case.

In the sense that he reports to Lewzer what he has done, and reports what he is going to do next. Not reporting in the sense that he is subordinate in any way.
