'Support for Ukraine is not driven by the need for gratitude'

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro: "Today, President Trump and Vice President Vance used the Oval Office as a stage to humiliate an American ally who is fighting for its very survival. He has delivered a propaganda gift directly to Vladimir Putin. By demanding that Ukrainian President Zelensky be 'more thankful' and spewing a torrent of Kremlin-driven lies and misinformation about the war in Ukraine, President Donald Trump has eroded our global standing. We must be clear - our support for Ukraine is not driven by the need for gratitude but because Ukrainian victory is in the interest of the United States and the free world. Russia invaded Ukraine, a sovereign democratic nation. The Ukrainian people are courageously fighting for their future as a democracy. This was an embarrassment for our country - once the leader of the free world. The behavior of our President and Vice President will reverberate around the globe and corrode American diplomatic relationships around the world. President Trump's repetitions of Russian propaganda is already playing through the halls of Moscow and Beijing. President Trump and Vice President Vance have emboldened our adversaries, abandoned US global leadership, and weakened our national security."

Today is the day that history will look back on as the day America fell off it's perch as the world's leader.

It kind of reminds me of January 6, when MAGA insurrectionists attacked the capital. While it was happening, I knew it was a huge deal. I told my wife to come watch the tv with me because it was an event that would reverberate for decades to come, and be taught about in history classes. Well, that is how I felt today watching Trump and Vance descend into open hostility toward the President of the Ukraine, to the advantage and benefit of Vladimir Putin (- the world's most vicious dictator bar none). A historic day. One that will be discussed (and rued) for at least as long as the rest of my life. American diplomacy and leadership flushed itself down the toilet.

Thanks Trump.

Two pathetic traitorous sacks of shit.

Real Republicans should be ashamed, but apparently they've all had their shame removed.

... 'Support for Ukraine is not driven by the need for gratitude' ...

Whoa.

Take a step back here.

And read that comment again.

'Support for Ukraine is not driven by the need for gratitude'

imo, support for Ukraine should not be based upon what moves towards us (i.e., "gratitude"), but more for what we want to move towards others.

So, stated differently, should we support Ukraine's fight for their sovereignty because of what we can benefit, or should we support Ukraine because we support their fight for freedom against an unprovoked invader?
