It Was an Ambush

Tom Nichols: The president of the United States ambushed a loyal ally, presumably so that he can soon make a deal with the dictator of Russia to sell out a European nation fighting for its very existence.

Friday, February 28, 2025, will go into the history books as one of the grimmest days in American diplomacy, the beginning of a long-term disaster that every American, every U.S. ally, and anyone who cares about the future of democracy will have to endure. With the White House's betrayal of Ukraine capping a month of authoritarian chaos in America, Putin, along with other dictators around the world, can finally look at Trump with confidence and think: one of us.

An ambush.

Yeah, that is the way it is looking.

I give major credit to Pres Zelenskyy for standing up to the ignoramus verbal assault of Pres Trump and VP Vance.

That took major cajones on the part of Pres Zelenskyy.

But he did that. For his country.

Much as Pres Zelenskyy has stood up to the unprovoked invasion of his country by Pres Putin.

"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Too bad so many Americans didn't follow Angelou's advice when it came to DonOLD:

Trump And Vance Ambush Zelensky In Prelude To Betrayal

JD Vance egged on the president, setting the stage for the US to abandon a key American ally in televised Oval Office meeting.

President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance moved to betray a key U.S. ally that has lost hundreds of thousands of people in fending off a Russian invasion on Friday, taunting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at an Oval Office meeting after spending weeks trying to undermine the bilateral relationship.

The Oval Office blowup, in which Trump and Vance berated Zelensky as ungrateful while dismissing the prospect that Russian President Vladimir Putin might renege on a potential ceasefire agreement, is a culmination in a weeks-long campaign to choreograph an end to U.S. support for Ukraine.

There is no question this was a setup':

Amb. Susan Rice on Trump's Oval Office ambush of Zelesnkyy

Former United States Ambassador to the United Nation joins Nicolle Wallace on Deadline White House to discuss the impact that Trump's Oval Office outburst will have in the War in Ukraine, and what the events of today say about where America stands in the democracy coalition."

[Verse 1: Terry Kath]
Well my Daddy said I'm messy 'bout the whiskers on my chin
Never had no problems 'cause I've always paid the rent
I got no time for loving 'cause my time is all used up
I spend my time creating for some groovy kinds of love

[Chorus: All]
I'm a man, yes I am
And I can't help but love you so
I'm a man, yes I am
And I can't help but love you so

[Verse 2: Peter Cetera]
If I had my choice of matter, I'd rather be content
Being closer to the chatter, showing where your mind is at
While relating to each other, how strong your love could be
'Cept for only sometimes groovy chicks you see

'The only winner was Putin': GOP Rep. Lawler says after Trump's argument with Zelenskyy

Some of President Trump's fervent allies stood behind his actions in the Oval Office with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. But Ukraine supporters within the Republican Party have expressed concerns about how the meeting played out and fear it could derail further negotiations with the country.

Amna Nawaz discussed more with GOP Rep. Mike Lawler, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee."

By the way, the word in Russian and Ukrainian for a "suit" is "kostyum", in case you were wondering why Zelensky used that word. He likely meant "suit" in answering Glenn.

Godfather Trump Demands Respect

In what can only be described as a shocking moment in the White House today, President Trump and Vice-President Vance openly berated Ukrainian President Zelensky for not being grateful enough for the U.S.'s help.

A short while later Zelensky left without signing the mineral agreement that the Trump administration insisted upon, leaving the prospects for any peace deal involving the United States completely up in the air.

European media outlets are reporting this as a major win for Vladimir Putin, as once again Donald Trump seems willing to toss aside any past relationship that America had with Europe, or any other American ally, even if it greatly benefits Russia. Or perhaps, because of that.

The Kyiv Independent, which is Ukraine's English-language media outlet, put it this way in an opinion piece:

"A president just disrespected America in the Oval Office. It wasn't Zelensky."

@#9 ...A president just disrespected America in the Oval Office. ...

Sadly, that seems to be an appropriate summary of what happened.

The United States of America is the leader of the Free World?

Not any more.

Under Pres Trump, the United States of America seems to be doing Pres Putin's biddings.

No longer the leader of the Free World, but now an obsequious servant of Pres Putin.

This is the end
Beautiful friend

My only friend, the end

[Verse 1]
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes again

[Verse 2]
Can you picture what will be?
So limitless and free
Desperately in need
Of some stranger's hand
In a desperate land

[Verse 3]
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
