An unvaccinated adult who did not seek medical care was found dead and is the first measles-related death in New Mexico in more than 40 years. A school-age child died in Texas from measles last week. Measles was considered eliminated in the U.S. in 2000 but is making a comeback. The virus, an airborne respiratory pathogen, is the most contagious in the world and can live outside the body of its human host for up to two hours.
