Virginia Universities Could Lose Millions Due to Student Visa Freeze

Virginia's colleges and universities could lose millions of dollars and thousands of jobs after the federal government froze international student visa interviews on Tuesday, mounted efforts to require all foreign students to undergo social media vetting and announced plans to "aggressively revoke" Chinese students' visas.

"the federal government froze international student visa interviews on Tuesday"

It starts with not letting them in.
Next we won't be letting them out.

Remember when Republicans said the difference between the USA and the USSR is in the USA we can travel freely?

Any Republicans remember that?

Maybe ol' Bozo did a little research into how much money the people who provide his income make off those students that he says should take their business elsewhere...or how much money his own state makes from those students.

Maybe that's why we have not heard back from him.

#25 | Posted by Angrydad at 2025-06-01 11:22 AM

Maybe that's why we have not heard back from him.

No, Boaz actually had to work, unlike you liberal bums.

I notice none of you ever speak on my suggestion of qualified blacks, who would never have gotten into an elite school because of cost, should be put in the spots of overseas applicants. Paid for by the U.S. government. Sort of like the G.I. Bill.

That's true reparations. That's generational reparations.

But you arent truly for the black community. You only want them because of votes. So you have to keep them down and depressed and fighting a non existent racial boogy man.

#26 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 11:52 AM

"I notice none of you ever speak on my suggestion of qualified blacks, who would never have gotten into an elite school because of cost, should be put in the spots of overseas applicants"

Who pays?
You want handouts for blacks.
Handouts is what made blacks lazy.

I dunno, man. Aren't you being pretty Woke?

#28 | Posted by Zed at 2025-06-01 11:56 AM

Nah, I dont see it that way.

This is true reparations for what past generations have done. It would make the black community self sufficient instead of using welfare.

But that wouldnt make them democrat voters.

#29 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 12:16 PM

I am still in shock that you are actually discussing racial inequality at all. You clearly once said "Racism is over in America and if we stopped taking about it then it wouldn't be a problem and would just go away". So why are you suddenly talking about Reparations? Why do you think blacks need special treatment over other races?

Sounds to me like you think blacks don't have equal opportunities in America.

Sounds to me like you are getting Woke to the problem.

Sounds to me like you need some for old fashioned maga harassment to keep you in your place.

lol

Careful what you wish for maggat.

It might if they graduate from Harvard.

55% of the class of 2022 registered as Democrats.

The majority of Harvard students consistently describe themselves as progressive or liberal. A survey of the class of 2023 revealed that 65% identified as progressive or very progressive.

The class of 2024 had 9% registered as Republicans. In the class of 2022, only 4% were registered Republicans.

Reality has a well known liberal/progressive bias.

#31 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-06-01 12:26 PM

Nah Donner,

I'm more concerned about the poor black, ghetto black and the destruction liberals have done to our black culture.

There is no racial inequality.

Are there lingering affects of Jim Crow in general. Yes. I have always maintained this.

To help with assimilation into American culture, education is a big step up. Everyone has and knows that slavery was wrong. Everyone knows that Jim Crow was wrong.

A way to fast track and push up blacks would be to give quality educations where we couldnt get it before.

This is a way to do it. Maybe have a program for 50 years. It would be a good start and a true reparations to an overlooked community.

#32 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 12:29 PM

Reality has a well known liberal/progressive bias.

If it was, we wouldnt have transexuals claiming to be women. They would understand that they are still men, regardless if they put on a dress.

#33 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 12:30 PM

In line with your comment then, Donner,

What do you think of this?

www.wsj.com

#34 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 12:33 PM

So much to unpack. Let's start here:

"To help with assimilation into American culture"

Can you define what "American Culture" means to you?

I asked my AI and it generally agrees with my definition.

What's yours?

#35 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-06-01 12:43 PM

Can you define what "American Culture" means to you?

You arent black, so you might not understand.

Alot of blacks, especially poor blacks, dream of times when they feel africa was great. Especially immigrants, they just basically want an Americanized version of the place they left.

America has a distinct culture different from others, and to prosper, you need to assimilate. I see it in the black culture all the time. They want to benefit from American culture while still keeping themselves separate and a distinctly poor culture.

Cant explain it anymore than that.

#36 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 12:58 PM

"You arent black, so you might not understand."

BS

Let me help you.

Me and my AI think the following is a more appropriate description of American Culture. Basically we are a Melting Pot. And if you had said that I would know you at least have a clue.

American Culture is not white or black. Or black and white! It's all of us. American Culture includes black culture and history. It also includes Native American Culture and history. And Japanese Chinese Irish German and many others.

American culture is the shared beliefs, behaviors, values, of ALL of us.

It a complex mix of influences from various cultures and traditions, shaped by the country's history, geography, and diversity.

Some key aspects include individualism, equality, informality, and a focus on progress and personal achievement.

If I had time and space we could even explore it further. This is 2025 and our culture has evolved and progressed dramatically since this country was founded. We are not a perfect union. But we ARE more perfect than when we started this great experiment.

#37 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-06-01 01:19 PM

"Evolving" to have mentally ill gay men say they are women isnt progress.

I see there's no talking to you.

Have a good day.

#38 | Posted by boaz at 2025-06-01 01:27 PM

Boaz took an oath to uphold a constitution he didn't and hasn't read but he's calling someone else mentally ill.

#39 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2025-06-01 01:37 PM

"What do you think of this?"

Briefly.. I think teaching Chinese students American values and American ideas is extremely valuable to America.

We live on a planet with many other peoples and cultures.

We used to want to help them all. That they come here should remind you that we still have the best Universities in the world and to not destroy what we have to spite ourselves. Fostering global understanding and cooperation used to be a desirable thing. Not so much with America Firsters.

Now that the Chinese are using our own tech against us we are not so sure about that original plan.

Maybe we should have placed more priority on maintaining fostering our global connections and cooperation. Rather than pretending we are the only country on the planet and treating other countries as inferior stupid creatures and dumping grounds for our waste.

Now ...

What do YOU think now of Apple's spending $55 billion ANNUALLY training of Chinese workers and its investment in factories and developing a skilled workforce capable of producing high-tech goods as good or better and cheaper than Americans can?

Trans Americans gays lesbians and bisexuals are also part of our culture. Here we do not throw people off of roofs because we don't agree with their lifestyle. Tolerance of different lifeways is now is also part of American Culture. (MAGA morons Nazis and White Christian Nationalists being the exception to that rule, of course, but they too are part of our Culture)

If you don't want to be a part of it Trumpy is offering a thousand dollars and a sack lunch if you will self deport. You should take him up on that before he TACOs again.

"I see there's no talking to you."

I can see that discussions involving reality are difficult for you. Sorry I but am not interested in sugar coating it for snowflakes.

Yes. And Harvard is not a "liberal college". Knowing and understanding Reality helps you to become a better American and just naturally causes you to become more liberal and progressive.

Like our Founding Fathers who, once we learn about them, Real Americans (not Nazis or White Christian Nationalists or MAGA maroons) try to emulate.

btw- Our Founding Fathers were also "liberals and progressives". Relative to their times.
