Voters in Minnesota state congressional district 34B elected Xp Lee to fill the seat left vacant in June by the assassination of Melissa Hortman. Lee's victory over republican candidate Ruth Bittner changes the balance of power in the Minnesota state house where republicans briefly held a one vote majority due to the vacancy. The makeup of the house now returns to 67-67. The two parties have already agreed to maintain the power-sharing arrangement that was established at the beginning of the session.
