House Speaker Mike Johnson warned on Sunday that President Donald Trump could be impeached if Republicans lose the majority in the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections.

They see the writing on the wall and don't want to spend all of 2027-28 in the minority defending Trump from investigations and impeachment.

Impeachment would likely be the least of Pres Trump's problems if Republicans lose the majority of the House of Representatives. Why? Because, imo, the Senate would not convict.

That aside, and stated differently, the House Democrats would then have subpoena power in the House Committees.

If the Blue Wave is as big as the current Polls indicate it might be... even Senators may start worrying about their futures unless they let go of his coattails.

In other words, focus on the results of Pres Trump, not Pres Trump himself.

For starters ... how has Pres Trump handled the economy since he came into office for his second term?

The Democrats should not get giddy or complacent.

Did Mayor-elect Mamdani win by railing against Pres trump? Or did he focus upon the economy and the lack of affordability?

A lesson to be learned?

The Democrats should stay serious and focused on their goal for 2026 elections.

And, by the way, what is their goal?

And railing against Trump makes more sense when he's 20 points or more underwater with voters.

Unfortunately you are correct that staying serious about issues prolly lost the last election... as if a darkish skinned woman had any chance anyway.

Voters have been kept under-educated by Republicans for decades now by their policies, as they know that the more educated one is, the more one is likely to vote for Democrats.

And there's a couple of old sayings to keep in mind, as per NY... 'all politics are local'.

Also: 'Politics ain't beanbag.'

imo, the Democrats should present solutions to the problems the voters face everyday.

Affordability seems to be first and foremost in that endeavor.

Even Pres Trump seems to agree. Why did he call "affordability" a "Democratic hoax" if he did not want to deny it as a Democratic strength?

And then he went on prime time TV to yell at Americans for thinking that affordability was something they should be concerned with.

I did say, 'might'... perhaps I should consider using mightier qualifiers.

But if things do reverse and the economy is humming and he hasn't yet fallen over dead or someone hasn't blown his brains out (small target!)... or he's stopped trying to invade Greenland and Canada and Panama and Venezuela...

If he's by then not asked Vlad if we can Join the Russian Federation or let Nuttyahoo talk him into a war with Iran... or he hasn't been blamed for thousands of deaths next Hurricane Season because of No Warnings or Disaster Recovery Funds...

... if things are all hunky dory (sorry), then well, that would fit the ancient story. Because in that story, that's exactly what happens. The AC, the Leader of the most powerful military on Earth makes peace, the 'Covenant of Many' with Israel and her neighbors, and his own country has 3.5 years of Peace and Prosperity.

Then it all goes to hell, so to speak, when he turns on Israel and attacks them halfway through the 7 year Treaty. Then the Fallen Church, who has supported the AC to power in the story, starts beheading those who don't take the Mark of the Beast so that they can buy and sell.

That's a good point.

Maybe what Sec Bessent has said is correct, that this current mess of an economy is just the launch pad to an awesome economy in the future.

If that happens before November 2026 (and my current opinion is, I remain skeptical), then the Democrats may need to look at a different message to present.

My point in this discussion is that the Democrats need to re-connect with the voters who elect them into office.

That has been shown in the various recent elections. The Democrats who re-connected with the voters won. Bigly.

Don't rely upon political ads paid for by nebulous PACs.

Get out there and talk with voters.

Talk with the people you want to elect you.

Precisely. Lots of things change over the space of time in politics and how voters feel about the current issues and how that affects their votes and opinions. Polls are more like an inflated balloon let go for free flight, you never know which way it will stay headed nor how long it will continue.

What worries me is that if the Dems should run on a ticket of 'we'll impeach trump', Turnip would likely try to seal his legacy as dictator before the election. He depends on fast response with the courts lagging far behind in catching up. By the time it arrives in the court's bailiwick, at least months have passed, if not years, and it will pretty much be appealed all the way to SCOTUS, which has shown extreme favoritism towards Turnip getting his way.

'I'm not Trump', worked for Joe Biden but is unlikely to work again. This time the magic words to re-election is 'It's the economy stupid'.
