Murder rate 5x higher w/o todays medical advancement

Murder rates would be up to five times higher than they are but for medical developments over the past 40 years. According to new research, doctors are saving the lives of thousands of victims of attack who four decades ago would have died and become murder statistics. Although the study is based on US data, the researchers say the principle applies to other countries too: "There is reason to expect a similar trend overall in Britain," said Dr Anthony Harris, the lead author of the study.

It is not just the medical advancements - it is better 911, cellphones, GPS, etc. This allows for much faster response times. The advancements have really painted a distorted picture of just how bad the big blue -------- cities are.

Ambulances now bring the ER to you. The tech in emergency vehicles has improved by leaps and bounds over the last decade.

Snoofy, have you seen The Pitt? It's set in an ER in Pittsburgh, and won the Emmy in its first year for best drama. Noah Wylie is the lead, as well as executive producer. It's terrific.

Potentially, a lot. Since 2002, tens of thousands of medical professionals served in war zones, treating victims who had been shot or blown up. Many of them likely went on to work as civilians in the medical field.

A few miles from my house is Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. For the past 24 years, it has been where injured service members were treated. My understanding is that it is still treating injured Ukrainians. If you have a cold or need any sort of routine medical treatment, the place is awful. For severe injuries, it might be the best treatment facility on the planet.

ER professionals have praised the show as the most realistic they've ever seen.

The premise is cool as well: each episode is one hour in the same day; the entire season takes place over 15 episodes/hours. They are clearly condensing a few things (the hospital administrator comes by every 15 minutes, it seems), but it's got some terrific writing and great acting. Noah Wiley won the Emmy, and the charge nurse won for best supporting actress.

They've obviously got lots of great technical advisors, but Wylie also hired a choreographer, to make sure everyone could get into their place smoothly, and make it look like they've been doing it for ten years.

It's on HBO Max, if you're looking for it. Highly recommended!
