Ode to Renee Good... and America - Weekend Music Thread

Sweet child in time
You'll see the line The line that's drawn between Good and bad
See the blind man Shooting at the world
Bullets flying, Ohh taking toll

If you've been bad Oh Lord I bet you have And you've not been hit Oh by flying lead You'd better close your eyes Ooohhhh bow your head Wait for the ricochet
I wanna hear you sing

"Gillian is quoted as saying that the song was created "using the Cold War as the theme", adding "the words came easily because we were all aware of the nuclear threat looming over us at what was probably the height of the Cold War."

RIP Renee Good

(Is America next?)

Now is, imho, the worst time for this country since the Cold War, Nixon, and the War in Vietnam.
With potential to be much worse than GW, Iraq, and the Bush Republican Recession.

I say that as someone who was Draft Bait a the time, and as a child had endured with all the other children in the country Atomic Bomb Drills in all schools including my elementary school.

As if sitting in the hallway covering our heads with our hands would protect us. Actually that's pretty much what some Americans are doing today; if one can be callous about these Street Executions, then one should reevaluate their mind and their soul.

O you who are in your tiny boat,
eager to hear more, following
behind my ship that advances, singing,
[go back, if you are to see your shores again.]

Do not put yourselves to sea, for if
you lose me, you too will be forever lost.
The waters I travel have never yet been crossed;
Minerva breathes, and Apollo guides me,
it is the nine Muses who show me the North Star.

Padlock the door and board the windows
Put the people in the street
"It's just my job, " he says "I'm sorry."
And draws a check, goes home to eat

But at night he tells his woman
"I know I hide behind the laws."
She says, "You're only taking orders."
That's how every empire falls

A bitter wind blows through the country
A hard rain falls on the sea
If terror comes without a warning
There must be something we don't see

What fire begets this fire?
Like torches thrown into the straw
If no one asks, then no one answers
That's how every empire falls

Mr Mayall is an awesome musician, imo.

I've posted a song by him in the past.

But the song is not appropriate currently, given the sincere topic of this thread.

ICE soldiers and Trump coming
We're finally on our own
This winter I hear the drumming
Renee's dead in Minnesota

[Verse]
Gotta get down to it
ICE thugs are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago

What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

(apologies to Neil Young)

Good vs Ice - Jesse Welles

www.youtube.com

I've had more dangerous encounters at
gas station counters in the Walmart
parking lot.

But the smaller the man, the quicker the
plan goes to somebody's getting shot.

Kevlar and jeans, a mask and a gun and a
badge for everyone in the mob. You
probably don't need to shoot someone in
the face to do the thing that you're
calling a job.

How's work? Well, they
got us shooting women now. How's the
pay? Well, there's a bonus if you're
wanting in. How's the hours? We shoot
them in the daylight and then we steal
them away in the dark of the night.

Only
the best and the brightest. Only the
finest get to put on the sacred mask.

If
you ever been fired, congrats. You're
hired for this particular task.

Now they'll circle the wagons, drape the
man in a flag, and say, "Don't trust
what your eyes can see."

They'll say,
"It's her fault instead for getting shot
in the head when we all watch the same
damn thing.

People don't seem to be talking about this much, but the last thing Becca Good said to Renee Good was "Drive baby Drive".

I would feel like I was responsible for Renee taking her foot off the brake instead of just staying put obeying the officer.

#30 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2026-01-11 04:25 PM

Renee was already trying to pull out before the cops arrived on her but a little silver car, I think it was, cut her off and stopped her exit.

Then the cops got to her and the rest is history.

I kind of got the impression Becca may have been more aggressive than Renee from appearances.
