Billionaires Own Our Elections

Political donations from billionaires and their family members made up 19% of all reported federal campaign contributions in 2024, the New York Times found. Donations from 300 billionaires and their immediate family members to federal elections in 2024 totaled $3 billion, either directly or through political action committees.

Those billionaire families each gave an average of $10 million, which equates to the contributions of roughly 100,000 typical donors, the Times reported

In Illinois, where billionaire JB Pritzker topped over several other billionaire-backed candidates to become governor, 87% of the money given to gubernatorial campaigns in 2022 came from billionaires.

In Nebraska, the family of billionaire Joe Ricketts contributed 21% of all political donations in the state in 2024, and, in California, a group that advocates for charter schools has received 90% of its funding from billionaires including Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings and Walmart heir Jim Walton.

But there may be hope.

Look at NYC Mayor Mamdani.

Public Financing of elections, paid for by these same billionaires who pay for buying Media, that they own, in the form of taxes on them... would take much of the money out of politics and reduce the effects of Republicans having given us Corporate Personhood and Money as Speech under the Law.

And politicians could go back to voting the way their Districts want them to rather than the way Billionaires and Israel and Corporations want them to vote.

In NYC we just knocked out AIPAC candidate Andrew "Benedict Arnold" who was heavily funded by mega-oligarch Michael Bloomberg.

Now this billionaire is already backing another tool named Micah Lasher. Bloomberg is planning to spend up to $5 million to boost his former aide in the race to replace Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) who supported Zohran Mamdani (D) for NYC Mayor.

Michael Bloomberg spent millions trying to prevent Muslim Zohran Mamdani from becoming NYC Mayor, but he failed spectacularly.

New Yorkers didn't fall into any traps and voted for the Bronx High School of Science graduate over the disgraced ex-NYS Governor who betrayed the party of his father, Mario Cuomo.

Billionaire oligarch Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) financially backed Juliana Stratton for the US Senate seat in Illinois and she won the primary.

Kamala raised $1.5 billion and still lost.

Oh, and her campaign still ended $20 million in debt.
