Artemis 2's historic moon flyby explained in 1 minute by NASA

Further than any human has traveled in space

And, right on cue, Trump wants to hog the airwaves just as the flyby begins ...

Watched the first astronauts on the moon with Apollo 11 live in '69... it wasn't long until Proto-Trumpers declared it was filmed in Arizona.

Me too. Our Sunday School teacher had a party at his house with several TV's scattered here and there inside and outside.

Truly awe inspiring!

In the 60's and 70's, starting in first grade, I'd write NASA for info on the space program and they'd send thick manila envelopes with info on everything from spacecrafts to astronauts to mission details. I accumulated a stack 2 feet tall.

I'm still fascinated by space travel and all the missions NASA launches, manned and unmanned.

In about 3 minutes we're gonna break Apollo 13's record for the furthest a manned mission has ever flown in space.

FYI: The diameter of the moon is only 2159 miles. About the distance from Nashville to San Francisco.

And the surface area of the moon is smaller than Asia's.

NASA is using LASERs instead of radio waves for video and audio communications.

We've come a long way in 50 years

The live shot of L-R of the capsule, moon, and Earth was truly awe inspiring. We were on the moon side of Earth's sunlight horizon.

Earthrise on the other side of the moon coming in a 1 minute ...

The pictures of the dark side of the moon will be like nothing we've ever seen. Apollo missions were in a near lunar orbit 68 miles up. 1500 miles up is an incredible vantage point to see the moon like we've never seen it before.

THIS is humanity at it's best. Proof of what can be achieved through education and cooperation. The Artemis missions will no doubt inspire millions of kids around the world and create a greater interest in science and math, just as the space program of the 1960's did.

We've had so much war. Trump can play with bombs, but THIS is what America is capable of when science and math and collaboration are put together for good.

PS - I heard someone remark that the live video shots are an off-the-shelf GoPro on one of the capsule's solar panels. Pretty neat.
