A friend of my friend worked for a major US bank down south where his job, along with several others, was to make cold calls to their well-to-do account holders to push them into making high-risk investments.
One night he related this to us.
On the morning of 9/11, he and everyone on the team were transfixed to the TV set watching the horror of the Twin Towers collapsing. With the country under attack, no one was making cold calls.
His supervisor stormed into the office and angrily ordered them to get back to making calls pronto.
"This is the best time to get their money! Everybody's anxious and worried! Tell them to buy this or that! Move, people!"
Our friend told us he quit his job after that.
