Right wing news network Newsmax reached a confidential settlement with voting tech firm Smartmatic in September 2024, the full amount of which was revealed this week in a public regulatory filing. Newsmax revealed in the filing that they paid $40 million to Smartmatic as well as offered the firm 2,000 shares of preferred stock. Smartmatic initially sued over Newsmax's promotion of claims that the company was involved in rigging the 2020 presidential election. The firm only provided their services in Los Angeles County
