Inter alia, 1,000+ dead and wounded Russians every day. Which is about a billion or two dollars of lost value to Russia a day, at the low dollar value of Russian lives. A war of attrition is an acceptable military strategy. It cost both the USSR (and the US) Afghanistan. Contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

This was a good enough strategy for Reagan but, unlike Trump, Reagan wasn't trying to figure out how much oral pleasure he could provide to the Soviet leadership.

The only dead bodies I care about in the present conflict are the Ukrainian ones. And they're a democracy that has chosen to defend themselves. So that is up to them. I'm not going to tell a democratic nation that they should lay down their arms so they can have a Russian dictator's boot on the neck of their children and grandchildren for the next century.

And, regarding monetary costs, we are eliminating Russia as a threat for pennies on the dollar at no cost of American lives. So that they are one less nation we have to worry about in our impending conflict with the Chinese. Strategically and monetarily, there is no reason for us to sabotage Ukraine's defense, unless we are trying to strengthen Russia.

Why? I thought we were having a polite and rational discussion.

I've noticed that every time I point out that Trump cares only about himself and his own interests, you accuse me of being impolite or irrational.

Anywho, more dead Russians is a good thing. And Ukraine is doing a bangup job on that.

The average dollar value of a Russian life is about $2 million (about a quarter of the worth of an American life).

At 1 million dead or wounded, Ukraine has inflicted about $2 trillion in damages on Russia just in lost lives.

Cut it in half to be conservative, and we're at $1 trillion. That's not including the actual cost of weapons, taking care of disabled vets, pensions, etc. and the permanent brain drain of educated young middle class Russian men fleeing for the border.

Long story short, Ukraine is hurting Russia for the cost of pennies on the dollar for us. And Trump wants to stop that. And the MAGAts sprain their necks nodding in agreement with Trump.

I would love for Ukraine to be able to declare outright victory against Russia. But, barring that, a decade-long war of attrition sapping Russian strength and destroying its demographics for the next couple generations is acceptable.

Plays dumb. Helps cause Ukraine's fall. Says "Whoops!" Opens Trump Towers Moscow. Shrugs.

A rigged "election," with the military going door to door asking how a household votes.

You posit a false dichotomy. You seem resolute on disregarding at least one other option: forcing Russia to continue fighting a war of attrition with Ukraine. Ukraine, which wishes to continue defending itself. Leaving Russia markedly weaker with every man/tank/personnel carrier that Ukraine takes out. At zero risk to the lives of American troops and a much lower monetary cost than if we did the deed ourselves. Which most Americans would see as a positive.

Almost like you, much like your chosen Orange Traitor President, wish to force Ukraine to surrender so you can strengthen Russia.

I am looking at a pragmatic approach. Ukraine cannot win unless NATO puts boots on the ground.

Grassley is trying to shame Trump into increasing sanctions against Russia.

Meanwhile Trump is trying to blame Ukraine for Russia's continued war crimes and refusal to make peace. To give Trump cover to lift sanctions on Russia. Because that's Trump's true goal. To strengthen Russia and attack Ukraine.

I don't know if that's how it will actually play out but it seems like the least worse course of action to me.
