Because my compensation has largely been incentive based and not salary heavy....I've always lived well below my income.

Years ago, I was at a party and someone there (union worker I think) was complaining that his raise was only 3% and not the 4% he was expecting and he was worried about affording his mortgage which was going up a little. I thought to myself why on earth does this guy live so thin he is worried he can't afford house over 1% of his income?

Times like that I feel very lucky to have gone the route I did.

It is slow here today.

And the money rolls in here where I work pretty routinely.

I'm glad we don't have COLAs here...mostly because I'm afraid it would stifle development and discourage folks from working harder, challenging themselves, and outperforming their peers.

Perhaps that's my capitalistic attitude at work and we certainly don't want to lose our best employees.
