SNAP benefits go to poor people, but within the economy they go to stores and ultimately, farmers. We live in country that pretty much, at the highest level, doesn't care. Competent people know competence and dedication to duty and to the welfare of all, and I have trouble thinking of even one person Trump has nominated or hired who was anything but a subservient tool to the Trump grand conspiracy of elevating him and disempowering the poor and the powerless.

I am certain of one thing, remembering Trump's ginning up the violence to attack the Capitol Building on January 6, to stop the counting of Electoral Votes by forcing Pence to obey or be hanged, Trump and his horrible gang of grifters won't go quietly. It is doubtful, but if the Dems take back both the House and the Senate there will be hearings, there will be impeachments, there will be hell to pay for the destruction of the East Wing...

Pressuring Ukraine to surrender all that land, that so many brave men and women died fighting to defend, so that Trump can both give his friend Putin a win, and also give Putin a way to take the rest of Ukraine in a few years when he has rebuilt his demolished military.

One has to admit that this version of the Republican Party has made the decision easier than at any other time in recent political history. Trump is dividing us one from another, he is daily alienating us from our historical allies, and he is encouraging the mass murdering psychopath Putin to keep it up since Trump has told Ukraine to surrender a third of the country.
The Republican Party is about the rich and the powerful, but they don't have the numbers to win elections, so they have, for a long time, used the "southern strategy" of Lee Atwater to get out the racist white southern and midwestern vote.
Was always thus, will always be thus, until the far right finally destroys our democracy and we are a pretend democracy with a gang running the show, a gang of billionaires.

The Republican Party has been destroyed, it is not an organization of people who care about the country and about democracy, they are to care about the care and feeding of one person, the cult leader.

People ask why, but for me the real question is who, as in who the hell is running this government if Trump is not. Aren't we in another Reagan time, when the President rambles on endlessly, but behind the scenes others are doing it all, including dropping off billions to foreign nations for no good reason at all.

I am old, same age as Trump, but unlike Trump I care about America and its future, both as a democracy, and as a home for the many who are at the bottom of the income pyramid.
I have given up that in the few years left to me I will see a government at the national level that is dedicated to reason and kindness and health for all. We are dominated by a Republican Party aching, just aching, to take from the poor to the give to the rich. When the core of today's Republican Party is full on racist misogynistic bullies, little will be done.

This country was founded by men, many of whom owned fellow humans as beasts of burden. Those rich men who founded this country saw women as incapable of doing much but cooking, clearing and bearing children. So sure, originalism is taking us back to barbaric times. The Republican Party is composed of, run by, mostly men who view the income inequality as being right and "godly".

National Health Care divides the trustworthy industrial countries from those countries, actually, that country, that cannot be trusted as they harm their own citizens. We are the only industrialized nation not to have some sort of national health care for all.

Trump is a perfect example of why the Civil Rights Act is still needed, he gins up racial hate to get votes and political power.

Supreme Court Fundamentalist fanatics will most likely give Trump the midterms by overturning most of the Civil Rights Act that remains.

Not in my name. Extra judicial killings of suspects is murder, whether it is done on the street in NYCity, or in the open ocean.

Again, if the feds want to make a strong point, the best way to do that is to hold large employers to the law, and fine or arrest those who break the law. America intentionally had a porous border after the Bracero Program was stopped in 1964, otherwise crops wouldn't have been picked.
Or, of course, farm employers could have paid more for legal immigrants and citizens to do the work, but those coming through that porous border didn't cause trouble, they didn't cause field strikes.
