Most smart TV operating system (OS) owners are in the ad sales business now. Software providers for budget and premium TVs are honing their ad skills, which requires advancing their ability to collect user data. This is creating an "inherent conflict" within the industry, Takashi Nakano, VP of content and programming at Samsung TV Plus, said at the StreamTV Show in Denver last week.

Farmers, cattle ranchers and hotel and restaurant managers breathed a sigh of relief last week when President Donald Trump ordered a pause to immigration raids that were disrupting those industries and scaring foreign-born workers off the job. "There was finally a sense of calm," said Rebecca Shi, CEO of the American Business Immigration Coalition.

The FBI's 2024 Active Shooter Report offers a rare moment of optimism in an otherwise sobering national security landscape. The Bureau identified 24 active shooter incidents across 19 states, marking a 50% decrease from 2023[1]. It's a welcome shift -- fewer incidents, fewer lives lost, fewer communities devastated. But we would be dangerously nave to interpret this decrease as an indication that the threat is behind us. The truth is that the threat remains urgent, and our systems to respond remain uneven.

OpEd: Trump Lashes Out at Fox News Over Devastating New Poll
www.yahoo.com

... Donald Trump slammed a Fox News poll Thursday on Truth Social, accusing the network's pollsters of being "always wrong and negative."

"The Crooked FoxNews Polls got the Election WRONG, I won by much more than they said I would, and have been biased against me for years," Trump wrote, referring to the 2020 election, which Fox correctly said that he lost. "It's why MAGA HATES FoxNews, even though their anchors are GREAT."

"I hate FAKE pollsters, one of the Worst, but Fox will never change their discredited pollster!" he added.

A Fox News poll released Wednesday shows that a majority of voters disapprove of Trump's job performance by an eight-point margin. The poll, regarded as one of the best in the industry, found that a majority of voters are still feeling pessimistic about the state of the economy. ...

Appeals court says Trump can keep control of California National Guard troops
www.nbcnews.com

... President Donald Trump is within his rights to deploy the California National Guard amid protests against federal law enforcement over immigration raids, an appeals court ruled Thursday night.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the federal government made a required "strong showing" in arguing it would prevail against California's challenge to the legality of the deployment of troops usually under the governor's control.

"Under longstanding precedent ... our review of that decision must be highly deferential" to the president, the panel wrote in its ruling. "Affording the President that deference, we conclude that it is likely that the President lawfully exercised his statutory authority." ...

@#21 ... I have yet to see ANY evidence of them going after the bad guys they said they would pursue. You know MS-13 and the like...

I've seen one or two here and there.

But so many seem to be outside that goal.

A teen with no criminal background was deported by ICE, leaving his community aghast
www.nbcnews.com

... For 19-year-old Emerson Colindres, it was supposed to be a routine check-in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It turned out to be a trap. He never returned home.

Colindres, who came to the United States with his family more than a decade ago to escape the violence in their native Honduras, was detained by ICE on June 4, just days after the talented student and soccer player graduated from high school in Cincinnati. Colindres, whose teammates said was one of the greatest players they met on the field, dreamed of continuing his sports career and hoped to attend a university. He did not have a criminal record, according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

In the span of two weeks, Colindres went from celebrating his graduation to being detained by ICE to then being deported to a country where he has not lived since he was 8 years old. ...

@#9 ... If she did it to "protest", she was wrong. ...

Why would she be wrong if she did it in protest? Is protesting illegal?

And what might you think about this rendition?

Ray Charles - America The Beautiful (1972)

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Verse 1]
Oh beautiful, for heroes proved
In liberating strife
Who more than self, our country loved
And mercy more than life

[Chorus]
America, America, may God thy gold refine
'Til all success be nobleness
And every gain devined
And you know when I was in school
We used to sing it something like this, listen here

[Verse 2]
Oh beautiful, for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
But now wait a minute, I'm talking about

[Chorus]
America, sweet America
You know, God done shed his grace on thee
He crowned thy good, yes he did, in a brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
You know, I wish I had somebody to help me sing this

[Outro]
(America, America)
America, I love you America, you see
(God shed his grace on thee)
My God, He done shed his grace on thee
And you oughta love Him for it

Because He, He, He, He, crowned thy good
He told me He would, with a brotherhood
(From sea to shining sea)
Oh Lord, oh Lord, I thank you Lord
(Shining sea)

Navy Meets Active-Duty Recruiting Goals Early
news.usni.org

... The Navy met its Fiscal Year 2025 recruiting three months early, Secretary of the Navy John Phelan announced in the video via social media site X.

The service, which also met its goal in Fiscal Year 2024, successfully recruited 40,600 active-duty enlisted sailors for the second year in a row.

Recruiting has been a challenge for the Navy over the past five years, with the Navy failing to meet its goals in Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023. The sea service attributed the increase in recruitment to new programs, like the Future Sailor Preparatory Course, and fixing obstacles in the recruiting process, USNI News previously reported.

The numbers do not include officers or reservists.

"This milestone reflects more than numbers," Phelan said in his video. "It reflects the drive of our recruiters, the innovation of our team, and the courage of thousands of Americans who stepped forward to serve." ...
