To end this debate once and for all and to stop you -------- from mindless repeating headlines without understanding the studies themselves, I will provide the information for you. Feel free to double-check with Grok, ChatGPT, etc.

The NPR article you linked states 3 studies " these 3 studies are repeatedly used to make these false statements regarding illegal alien criminality.

1.) THE INCARCERATION GAP BETWEEN IMMIGRANTS AND THE US-BORN, 1870"2020 paper did not differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants. They used some proxy measures but did not actually use any database of actual data on criminality whereby immigration status was determined. No one is debating that legal immigrants commit crimes at much lower rates. Hell, I would go so far as to state illegal immigrants due to visa overstays probably commit crimes at lower rates. The main issue is illegal border crossers.

2.) CATO Institute 2019 report on Texas. This study used fingerprint data to determine immigration status. Any fingerprint that was not explicitly found in the prior immigration database (which is only collected via prior police encounters) was included as native born'. Thus, this study only correctly identifies illegal repeat offenders which are typically deported or change location so they do not re-offend in the same jurisdiction. In the case of CATO, they are basically classifying all illegal first-time offenders as native born' based upon their methodology so we are only really capturing illegal repeat offenders " and given that " the rates are shockingly high given deportation or changing jurisdiction.

3.) The Marshall Project " this did not even study relative rates of criminality between legal and illegal immigrants. It concluded that there was no surge in illegal criminality but their methodology actually makes this conclusion impossible. They used the data from the FBI UCR " which does not even state immigration status as well as the estimate for illegals in metro areas. In short, if crime decrease, they automatically assume it is due to lower immigrant crime " garbage study.

As I said previously, the ONLY study which systematically determined immigration status was the Arizona study " and that found illegal immigrants committing crimes at much higher rates than legal immigrants.
